Assistant mayor ambushed but maid seriously injured

TRANG: -- A female assistant mayor of Trang City narrowly escaped death but her Maid was seriously injured when she was ambushed by gunmen wielding M16 assault rifles.

The attack happened Friday at Ban Bo Sisied village in Tambon Natam Nua of Muang district, Trang province.

The assistant mayor Mrs Pailin Kuenta was driving home when the ambush took place shortly after midnight.

As she was driving into a palm plantation which is 200 metres from her home, two gunmen hiding by the roadside opened fire with M 16 assault rifles on the left side of the car.

Upon being ambushed, she accelerated her car to escape and rushed her Maud to Trang hospital in serious condition.

Trang provincial police chief Pol Man Gen Jirawat Udomsut said the assistant mayor survived the assassination because the assailants mistook the maid to be her thinking she had a driver.

He said it was not immediately known if local politics or personal conflict is a motive for the attempt on her life as earlier her aide was also shot.

Second attack on her.........I'm pretty sure I'de be leaving town.....but I guess she was lucky....both time someone else copped the bullet.

If you want to get on in local politics here, you must have a group of hitmen to call in when required otherwise none of your rivals will respect you and you won't last long.
