Their dropping like Thai's at my village.

Featured Replies

So,we have all heard the expression "they are dropping like flies',well here they are dropping like Thai's,5 funerals in one week, and the music at 5am,,i have scoured the village for egg carton's which i have cunningly filled with wool, that the wife had for making cushions ,the bedroom now looks something akin to the interior of the Tardis, circa 1970's,my starter for 5 is why are they{smog] dropping ,and what can one do to insulate from the noise,if you live in a village,of course if you are a rich baron who owns [or your wife],all you survey ,you need not answer.

5 funerals? You lucky thing. Free food, free entertainment and on top of that you are complaining? What does it take to satisfy people, nowadays?

. In the USA it is free, yessir. In Greece it might be free, I dunno, Costas, you tell me. But in Thailand, it ain't free. Gotta hand over that envelope. (And the food is rarely worth eating.)

Go with the flow... you will be a long time dead at some point in the future.

Egg cartons don't work as soundproofing. You've made your house look stupid for no reason.

Sure there is the envelope, if you are well known, and even better, also well thought of, the ladies will make sure you eat well

Tell them to have more consideration and stop dying so often.......maybe you could tolerate one a week or month...if they don't mind that.

Similar in our village, all elderly and not in the picture of health (I think it may be the relatively hot weather and possibly relatively poor levels of hydration also contributes) but generally the food is good and the beer cold all for a couple of hundred baht in the envelope.
I am an early riser anyway, although when staying in the village my TGF is normally up and about before me, whereas, in the Pattaya apartment roles are reversed, and to be honest if it isn't a funeral it's the animals that wake me up.
As others have said it's all part of village life.TiT.

After a rather frenetic season of funerals in our village, they tied one of those magic strings around the entire village. They even extended it to include our house on the fringes. Not sure it did any good but it seemed to make the string seller happy.

I probably fall into the baron category as my house is far enough away to not be bothered by the noise but thought I would risk a reply anyway.

Death is such good luck...buy lottery tickets. Ha!

The other year we had 3 neighbours die in quick succession.

While the party for the first death was thundering on, I could see the stress in the faces of 2 of my other neighbours. Extremely loud music for 20 hours a day does cause stress, even to Thais. These were elderly, but lively people and they looked more and more haggard every day. I firmly believe that the stress from the noise was at least a contributor to the 2nd 2 deaths.

Last October, when fireworks are being set off at all times of the day and night continuously, a woman in our village brought her new born baby home from hospital. I saw this little bundle start and scream at the noise from these bangers. The baby was obviously extremely stressed by the noise. The baby died a few days later. I wonder if the stress from the noise had anything to do with it.

In the backwards villages of Issan, take away electricity and motorbikes and you are back 1000 years ago -- sleeping & preparing, eating food ON THE FLOOR -- conversing i meter apart at a YELL level - generally zero manners or consideration for others. On the scale of evolution, not too far above the monkeys! "MONKEYS WITH MICROPHONES"as a friend always says.

Let me gues it's FIL's part there will be a party for one week...

I will not be attending.

I am sure when your turn comes you will get the same resounding send off (I hope not soon)

Where are they throwing the ashes ?

People must just be "dyeing to be there".

I know this now,i just watched kidnapping Mr Hienekin, and they used a kind of orange foam to cover the walls, plus the smell from the glue is giving me bad dreams,it may be a case of back to the drawing board regarding my soundproofing.

It is foolish to live in a village without buying enough land to keep your distance from the noise. A couple of friends have a least 70 rai. They did buy when it was 10/20k a rai.

Trees, bamboo etc are great for soundproofing. I particularly like "bird of paradise" which blocks noise and looks good.

Guess the old figure of speech, loud enough to wake the dead, fails miserably in the real world.

God knows my neighbors in Rhek Thum have tried.

Take a holiday, go visit and stay with friends or rellies where it will be peaceful.

Noise causes stress for sure.

Joining in and getting drunk may cause other stress and adverse health effects.

We live in a Moobaan near a main road. The noise from traffic is disturbing at night because it can ruin a good night's sleep.

We always have the aircon fan running at it's max, even if it's not cooling the room, the constant drone of the fan reduces the other external intermittant noises.

Not a lot you can do to combat those HUGE speaker systems with that thunderous Bass that they employ.

I really feel for you.

Get out for a while if you can.

Have respect for the dead . And above all remember .............................

If you don't go to other peoples funerals they won't go to yours.

1.Get pissed by 4: 30 that you don't mind

3. Move on

4. Get used to it and have fun with the locals

Have to admit the last one is hardly to be achievable....

I think you'll find that option 1 and option 4 combine quite well together.

.

Thank God, no. The guy a few doors down from me in Rhek Thum was as poor as dirt, but possessed a stack of speakers on his front porch, that I think he purchased from Mick Jagger. Likely because the Rolling Stones fans complained of excessive noise, and Sir Mick downgraded.

Furthermore, after four months back in the States, I finally heard today for the first time, a dog barking.

Every night here is like being a baby again.

I feel for the OP.
