I’m putting all the paperwork together for my girlfriends visit visa application and I’m beginning to get a little worried about (hopefully) silly things, I hope you guys can take the time to read my points and give me your opinions and advice.

I have been working to the checklist for the application of social visitors and also the advice issued in previous topics in this forum.

• I have a paper free, internet banking account and my statements are all emails. Will they accept print outs of these statements or do I have to ask the bank for six months of statements sent to me.

• I have lots of used international dialling cards, to use them I phone a free number so therefore, I have no itemised bills to my girlfriends number. Will they accept used phone cards as evidence of contact?

• I work for my fathers company and have a mobile phone through the company. I have itemised bills for this phone with SMS messages shown but the bills are in my father’s name. If I explain this in my sponsors letter will they accept?

• I also have emails that I have printed from my inbox and sent folder, a receipt from a cash transfer to her account and stamps on my passport from the time I met her and the time I went to visit her. I also have photos of us together. I am worried that this will not be enough or not be accepted.

• There is no mention of proving a reason to return on the checklist for the application of social visitors but I am well aware that this is a point I must attempt to prove. My girlfriend has a letter from her boss stating that she will be permitted leave from her job for the trip and she will be able to return to her job. She will write in her application that she understands she has to return on the stated days or any future visa applications will be jeopardised. Again I am worried that this will not be enough or not be accepted.

• The checklist for the application of social visitors asks for “evidence of any firm travel plans”. I am Scottish and therefore tighter than a duck’s bum, so there is no way I’m paying for flights until the visa is approved. All I can do is print out the web page from emirates airlines showing a quote for the flights. Again I am worried that this will not be enough or not be accepted.

Any opinions and advice will be much appreciated.

To take it point by point....

1) They prefer the normal statements so ask your bank for them ..not difficult and it will remove any problems over the acceptability (although the bank may charge you and as a scotsman will you be able to live with that !!)

2)I found that with my international dialling company their system still holds all your call details , therefore i suggest you call the customer services number which will be on the back of each card and ask them for how far back do they keep itemised records -mine was 6 months at least- and if you send them a fee (!! scotsman again) -its about £10 or less, plus the PIN numbers of the cards (keep the actual cards) can they send you printouts of the calls made from each card. This will list time , date , number called and duration. Problem solved !!

3) Can't think why they wouldn't accept that ... not difficult to prove the phone is a company one so ...yes i think thats fine.

4)It is all good evidence , you must put it together in a chronological order to make it obvious and easy to read for the ECO.

5)That will be fine and is , in any case, all anyone can do.

6)Yes that is enough , indeed they specifically advise you not to buy tickets, just to outline your travel plans with , as you say , some documentation to show you have tried to do this.

They do not appreciate jokes so don't make them . Leave it to us humans to do !! :o

Overall i think you have a great chance.

You don't actually need to prove anything. The applicable legal standard in immigration cases is the balance of probabilities and, as such, your girlfriend only needs to demonstrate that what she says is likely, rather than actual fact. Consequently, providing that her supporting evidence in its entirety tends to suggest that she meets the requirements of the relevant paragraph of the immigration rules, the visa should be issued.

If you are worried that there are deficiencies in the overall standard of the evidence, the best thing to do is to attempt to foresee the things upon which a visa officer could pick up and address these in your covering letter. Certainly, however, I would try to obtain hard copies of your bank statements and print outs from the phone card companies.

Cheers,

Scouse.

This is by far the most common reason for the Embassy refusing entry to the UK. Proof in the form of a letter from your GF's employer stating that she has a job to return to, and a permanet address in Thailand will be required as proof that she intends to return

Good luck

Ling men,

Nothing to add about the quality of your supporting docs, as everything has been covered.

However, instead of using phone cards, try 18185.

Calls to Thailand landlines and mobiles from a BT phone; 4p connection charge then 1p per minute! (Charges for other suppliers vary.)

Plus you get an itemised bill every month, useful when/if she applies for another visa.

I would add an agenda for what your girlfriend plans to do on her holiday. Something simple like Day 1 visit Edinburgh Castle etc.

This helped with my girlfriend as she was initially turned down for not knowing enough about the detail of her holiday.

Although some posters say, using proper bank statements is better. I used my internet banking "print off's" and didn't have a problem. Even ECO's are aware of internet banking nowaday's.

Same with my telephone calls. I use access numbers, so these are the only numbers that appeared on my bills, not the wifes number. I put a note in stating that these are access numbers for cheap rates. Once again, no problem, as the ECO's are also aware of cheap call numbers from UK. I wouldn't mind betting that their very own family in the UK, use such method's to contact them in Thailand. :o

Good luck
