Perfect Thai-style PR from Bangkok mayor

"Bangkok is a river city and we have to deal with floods from time to time. Go and live in the mountains if you want to be free of floods." - Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra's way of offering sympathy and apology for the citizens who voted him into office, after the city was flooded for up to three hours after a 'freak storm' that he had been warned about and then did nothing to deal with.

What would you have done with 3 hours warning? Clean all the drains, hand out rafts to everyone? Bangkok has been flooding for as long as I can remember (20 years), yes its annoying for a couple of hours, then it's gone.

I too fail to see what can be done about preparing for a storm on three hours notice. Mr Mayor is just pointing out that flooding is part of life in this part of the country. I don't see anything rude or sarcastic about that.
