Consumer Reports, May 2015.....Tops Supermarket...........

Featured Replies

Was ranked 63 of 68 for US grocery chains in a very recent survey. I've been very disappointed in the ones in LOS, and this just reaffirms my complaints.Scan0674.pdf

Flounder around all you want they are still two different companies.

As the Tops supermarkets in the U.S.A are a totally bridge rent company to the one in Thailand I fail to see the point you are making.

This is like reading a report about the 7-elevens in the U.S. and saying it's a report about the 7-elevens in Thailand. Totally different stores.

Tops US and Tops Thailand are two separated in entities. Tops US are in only 3 eastern states, http://www.topsmarkets.com/StoreLocator/Store_S.las?-token.S=653T9R3E99B09d8P7173432DMysN6L53C13194|233155|1504022138||| and would not make a pimple on Tops arse in Thailand which btw is owned by Central Group, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Group http://www.tops.co.th/en

Thought this one might apply a bit..... (in case the mod has an itchy trigger finger, this is meant in humor...):

It used to be the same company.....but the survey is not completely useless. Notice Tesco isn't on the list; anymore, as they failed so miserably that they took their losses and chemical additives and went home. Also, at one point Giant (near the bottom) was also owned by Royal Ahold, and Food Lion, as well, and that is who Tops bought out in Thailand. Foodland was also Royal Ahold...so the links are numerous. But, I admit, that it was mostly a coincidence that Tops US and Tops Thailand share many of the same deficiencies, but it seems like many are so used to expensive, out of date goods, that they are right at home shopping there. BTW. California, asw a country, would be the #5 food producer in the world, and they've even been in a five year drought.

gosh

Oh my. And silly me thought Tops Thailand was a pretty neat place to shop! Better selection, layout, and more helpful staff than any other supermarket in Thailand.

But then I assume you are more used to shopping at much less expensive stores.

One wonders at times. There's an old saying (Abe Lincoln's?) which I'll lighten up a bit: Better to remain silent than to further confirm what other people are thinking.

In reality, I've never had a bad shopping experience at any Top's location. Seems perfectly fine to me.

But I do have one complaint - that being the devilish manner in which some of the bakery products (notably the glazed twists and occasional onion bread) call out to me as I walk by. Do the unscrupulous executives at Top's do this on purpose? Could it be considered felonious temptation? If so, god bless them.

I think they may be in British Columbia also.

Wrong again, California is NOT a country, merely a state of the USA.

California exports many commodities, not just wine, dried prunes and almonds, but #5 food producer in the World? Can you back that up with stats?

yes, California, as a country, would be the 8th largest economy in the world, but the 5th largest food producer. As far as the pimple comment.....yes it operates in three states...with sales of 2.5 Billion USD, and 161 stores. One of those states (NY) has a GDP almost 4 times larger than Thaialnd's. But Tops Thailand operates 120 stores...so that pimple has gotten larger than they are.

I'm used to shopping at much better stores, period. But, you must like the convenience of being able to buy the adult diapers on the same level at KSK.

How did Tops Thailand get into the consumers report in the States?

Maybe it is an international firm, but what the hell, what difference does it make here ?!

How come Rim Ping didn't make the list?

One guess!!

The OP is just another example who moves too Thailand but wishes that things are the way they were at home. Always looking to compare things.

Actually, I wish that the Tops in America was quite different than the ones in LOS, but the report reaffirms it is the same. You seem to be more of the type that refuses to acknowledge the global economy that we live in, while you routinely shop at stores that are basically multi-national corporations.

Maybe it is maybe it isn't. But we know it had nothing to do with the Top's reported on in the States. My question is why drag it into this forum. Shall we talk about immigration here also? It is as relevant to the OP as Top's in Thailand is.

If some if one wants to bash Top's in Thailand go to the General forum and start a thread there. I am sure they will get quite a big following there.

One thing I will miss about California/The US is Trader Joe's.

But I won't miss paying 10x as much for housing...

Again I'm amazed at what people find time to talk about.
