Looking for the Village of Ban Tan Kun.

In 1967-1968 I lived and worked in the Village of Ban Tan Kun (not sure if spelling is correct) It is a small village South East of Swang Dien Din, south of Hwy 22.

If I remember correctly there is a village nearby call Ban wattana (again not sure of the spelling. I lived there for almost 1 year.

I returned to visit Ban Tan Kun in 2007 but I would like to locate the village on a map. I had a great time on my visit in 2007 and made a donation to the school. I was one of 2 Americans living in that village when we dug the well, put concrete casing in it and a hand pump.

I have tried google earth maps, but the village must be so small it is not listed? Please help if you are aware of the location of BAN TAN KUN

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm... not easy with this script.

HWY 22 is the main anchor.

Best guess:

Sakhon Nakhon Province (I hope you can confirm that, missing in your description)

Sawang Daen Din District

Tan Kon Subdistrict

The subdistrict is usually named after one of the villages.

So "Ban Tan Kon" could be the place you look for.

Its here then:

(Google maps is very poor with labeling the smaller places)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawang_Daen_Din_District (table entry nr. 16)

All transcriptions are RTGS, which does not serve well for English speakers.

I can make up English style transcriptions.

Might help if you gave a Province ? Then it can be moved to that local forum for local knowledge and input.

South of HWY 22 is definitely in Isan.

My question about Sakhon Nakhon is somewhat redundant.

Very sure, this "Tan Kon" is the place you look for.

Screenshot from Nokia Maps showing "Watthana" the nearby village you mentioned:

Wow, That was fast! Thanks so much for the help. Those are the correct villages. I have a piece of the old wooden school where I helped teach English to the kids back in 1967. The school and the health center, where I worked, have both been replaced. It really was a great time to revisit in 2007, I hope I can do it at least once more.

Again, thank you very much for the maps and links.
