Hi. My girlfriend will be applying for a uk general visit visa in a few months and we are wondering if we get her documents translated from Thai to English now will we still be able to use them when the time comes. I'm not sure how long a translation can last ( do they expire?) also, what type of documents do we have to get translated.

She currently lives with her parents in a house that they own so we will send the house book, her parents also have a building with individual rooms that they rent out and a shop which her mother works in. The only evidence she has of the shop is a license to sell cigarettes and alcohol. And the house book for the building where the rooms she rents out are.

Will this be sufficient enough to send as evidence she will return?

She also currently at university so we will provide evidence of this.

Thanks

The Entry Clearance Officer will be looking at reasons for your girlfriend to return as she is the applicant.

That her parents own property and a business is not evidence that your girlfriend will return to Thailand after her visit; she does not own the properties nor the business nor even work in the business.

Your girlfriend should supply evidence of her reasons to return. She is a student, so evidence of her attendance at university and when she needs to return to continue her studies should be sufficient.

Plus any other documents on this list which may be relevant to her; note this is a list of suggestions, not a list of compulsory documents.

As that lists says, any documents not in English should be accompanied by a certified English translation.

You should also read General visitor visa and may find UK visit visa basics helpful.

Thanks for the answer. So evidence of her studies will be enough as proof she will return as she nothing else we could send to say she will. We are going to send a lot of evidence about our relationship as well so will they think she doesn't want to jeopardize any future plans by over staying?

If all she has as a reason to return is her studies, then that is all she can use.

It worked when my step son applied while he was at university in Bangkok.

Evidence of the relationship will help show she is a genuine visitor with a genuine reason to visit; but don't overwhelm them with it! The ECO has very little time to assess each application; you don't want them to miss something important while wading through piles of emails etc.!

I would say in your sponsor's letter that you are both aware she cannot apply for settlement in the UK whilst there as a visitor and that she does not want to jeopardise any future settlement application by overstaying a visit.
