The building is behind a large building under construction. You enter along a dirt road between 2 bars, directly across from the Promenada entrance road on highway to San Kamphaeng

If I got my Condo Chanote and perhaps a 3BB bill would any other docment be required? I'm thinking of getting a drivers' license, eventually

(ID Photos, Letter from Juristic person, Consular attestation of passport validity, Health certificate, vaccination records, etc.)

I noticed a "90 day report" window when I was there. Anyone used this office for 90 day reports. Will try to remember to ask when I pick up my RC on Monday.

My understanding that is for migrant workers. But if found to be open to all will be useful to know so will wait your report.

I went in December, and opted for free letter...35 days. My understanding is that farang cannot do 90 day reports there. I showed Chinote and 3BB bill, and condo maintenance bill. I was able to get a Yellow Book with the letter, which also required a translation of my passport. I bought a "variety pack" of passport photos at a Fuji shop for 180 THB, and have gotten four different applications done with the photos. Yellow Book is no picnic, but once it's done you can use it for license, registration, and more flexibility with the banks.

I was in there this morning and despite the advice on just pay the 500bt and forget it....I just cant....I have to be buligerant and go down fighting.

As messerschmidt says its door 4. I had a pile of photos from last years application but not a surprise they now needed to be bigger and conveniently the photocopy girl would do 4 for 100bt.

On the desk just a teenager boy 5yrs ahead of his first shave was very nice and helpful and he asked me for 500bt.

I politely suggested to him that the large poster in the main hall says only official fees to be paid.

post-150623-14295215314892_thumb.jpg

He couldnt respond and said you better come to desk 2 to talk to my staff. I knew I would be meeting the same tit that I argued with last time and the outcome would be the same.

Despite referring to the poster above his head he said the fee is 500bt and proceeded to pull out the crappy diy montage of faded photos and rules.(the same one he had on the wall in his airport kennel)

I could just make out where he was pointing. No fee for non immigrant. Tourist visa fee.....free/fee...no free.

You know what their translation is like.

I asked where it says 500bt. It doesnt.I asked for a receipt. Mai mee! haha.

I said my accountant asked for receipt. Mai mee again and his arms flailing. I am getting to him. My application is going left and then right and then back to me.

From under his knee he pulls out the crappy mood board again.

What is your name sir? Thomas he replied unusual but i reconfirmed with him.

Ok Thomas today I check your immigration website and there is no official fee for the residency certificate. He tells me to go to the British Consulate. He said that lasy year...well rehearsed excuse. Sorry Thomas but the British consulate has now closed but really Thai government fees are not in their jurisdiction.

Can you please just give me a quick receipt then you can deal with the queue behind me?

He was blowing and huffing. You see Thomas if you have a list of official charges and it says I have to pay 2000bt I will pay without query but the sign above your head quite clearly says "do not trust anyone who asks for any service fee"

At that point he pushed my application back towards me stood up and walked away.

As I said it was an argument i was not going to win but I thought i would enjoy a bit of sport.

Back I went to door 4 with 500bt clipped to my application. Quite blatantly took a photo of it. I passed the forms to the boy and he said "photo" yes under the money. "no you take photo? Cannot take photo here" yes i take photo of my money.

He gave me a slip to collect letter tomorrow...is it right that teenager staff are now fronting the collection. My guess is he doest have a clue it being pocketed elsewhere.

As many of us often say its not about the money its the theft the bribe the corruption the sweeteners and honest people like myself feel that is a violation.

Anyone going in tomorrow I need a strategy to get the money back.

Brilliant post eyecatcher. cheered me up no end, as the blood in my body seems near boiling point as the mercury rises.

As I left on Friday, I wondered if the young lad you refer to was the exact chap the signs warn to avoid paying. Not in uniform. Another sign said the waiting time for required letter was 8 to 10 days? Maybe that's for free if you avoid the desk where the money is demanded & just queue up at the official desk in room 4? 500 bt to speed things up? Next day is not speeded up imho - used to take a few minutes at the black hole office.

I didnt hold out for the 5 day wait as i think i did last year ( and still paid 500) but the young lass on his left was already on the pc actually writing up all the official letters.

And the Burmese were in my queue also being charged 200bt for something....probably a 7 day work permit judging by the sheer numbers of them there.

That aside; out at promenada as expected about a 1000 motorbikes there are 1pm today and its 10bt to park the bike. Thats an unnecessary racket as well.

In Phuket, the head of Immigration clearly stated that paying for the letters was illegal, and he wanted to know who was doing it. It was in the paper. I'll dig the article out later if anyone wants to see it.

Application of Immigration rules have always been flexible in Thailand over the 15 years I have been here. Each office seems to have its own set of rules/ guidelines.I know a friend of mine who lived in Phuket was invariably late

with his 90 day reporting, when it was in person,he never got fined just a smile and "Don't worry Mr T it's ok"

Chok dee with getting the 500 baht fee removed in CM.
