Dual Citizenship

Featured Replies

i heard that since 2002 the dual citizenship has no longer applied in EU

which means those non-EU citizen even they do registered marriage with EU citizen, will not be able to have additional passport due to the 2nd status after tying the knot

yes or not ??

what i heard was:-

if the marriage is registered after 2002 and so forth, the dual citizenship is, therefore, no longer applicable

all the pre-2002 cases are exceptional, as well as the pre-1998 acts are in charge of duality, still

i'm really not sure about this issue :D

ps. all further info will help me rethinking about tying the knot 4real :o

You don't get citizenship upon marriage anyway, in the UK it's 5 years at least.

No one can stop you having two passports, you just don't tell them

Citizenship law is country specific. There is no overiding EU law governing this area.

Each country in the EU has laws and regulations on how dual citizenship is dealth with. Some countries are more liberal that others, and others ban it totally. It all depends on which country you are talking about.

Perhaps re-post your question telling us what nationality you are... people will be in a better position to advise you then.

and the country of which you hope to become a citizen.

i'm thai

my bf is italian

the marriage is about going to happen in holland

i actually don't want to become other citizen else but thai

anyway

by reading other topics posting here in this forum

someone was talking about having thai girlfriend who holding 2 passports:- original and married ones

so i'm just wondering how it gonna work among the EU laws and regulations if i am eventually destined to marry in the alien land.

by now,

as my perception so far, i guess

the duality of citizenship totally differs from the issue of having 2 passports ????

the first is about legalised act

the latter is about red-tape..

the 2nd passport, for me is just about kick-ass stuff! :o

Once you are married try for a EU passport. A Thai passport is a handicap in Europe, whereas a EU passport will enable hassle free travel and gives you the ability to work anywhere in the EU
