I have always been troubled by the "mail in" approach and I have yet to hear from one who so engages as to whether the receipt, signed by an immigration officer, is returned to you in that proceedure.

If you don't receive a receipt, I am troubled as to what might happen if your passport is ever checked and the receipt of your 90 day report is not therein.

Accordingly, I filled out one report form carefully and then made many copies, leaving only the date blank for use every 90 days.

I just drop by the local immigration office, easy for me, give them the form, smile at the local immigration "boss" who beams back, get my receipt and thats it.

Keep in mind, you need not report every ninety days if you go out of the country or renew your one year extention as the ninety day rule applies from the date you last "reported" to an immigration official, ie going out of the country or going in for your yearly extension is a report under their definition. From previous replies there seems to be some confusion about the "90 days".

The way I read your situation is that you just got your first retirement visa. Immigration gave you a stamp valid for 3 months (90 days) and then you have to return to get a visa extension, hopefully for the remainder of your first year. This is so Immigration has time to "investigate" you - to check on your documents, etc.

If this is correct, then I know of no way you can do this by mail. You must appear in person. If you are going to be out of Bangkok at that time, go back early and tell Immigration. They will likely give you a stamp for the date you plan to return. If you are going out of the country, then you need to get a reentry visa.

(Other posters, correct me if I am wrong on the latter)

It is not the same thing as the requirement for reporting your address every 90 days (or a change of address, which in Bangkok is done in Room 401 at the Suan Plu Immigration Office (see the instructions on the TM card stapled inside your passport. This 90 day requirement can be done by mail, but has nothing to do with your visa extension.
