Sorry for being so late announcing this as just remembered it. Royal Ploughing Ceremony is a public holiday and immigration will be closed as other government departments and main bank branches.

Perhaps, it not being a holiday would be more newsworthy.

Certainly an announcement like the O/P's on Thai Visa that didn't generate whining or Thai bashing would be newsworthy.

Do you think it is possible that it was posted to try to help TV members not making wasted trips to immigration etc?

A post from CM's number one troll removed plus reply to it. And thanks for those who supported the announcement.

I don't think it's a major public holiday. The Stock Exchange of Thailand is open on May 13th and I think the banks will be open as well.

Thanks for that correction. I did rush the topic a bit as it was brought to my attention at work today and didn't check my usual site for verification on bank holidays. Did cross check at immigration though and verified they are closed.

It's a confusing holiday for me. Years ago I seem to remember that it wasn't a public holiday and still went to work at the university. Also, the date was not known until a few days to a few weeks at most when it will be as it is based on the Royal Astrologers using a method not readily known by laymen. Then maybe 3-4 years ago the announcement for the day was being given months in advance making it easier for me to fit in the Thaivisa calendar accurately. Perhaps the astrologers have joined the digital world. biggrin.png

To Tywais and Khunangkaro:

Yes, very confusing, I admit, but where in the world are we? ... Here many things are confusing. I've seen that in the Thai National Holidays 2015 it is listed as a public holiday. It should be marked as "observance."

While we are at the subject: Thailand has much too many holidays. We had twice 5 days holidays in a row within the last 30 days! How can an economy thrive like this? I thank the BOT that the SET is open today.
