eyecatcher Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 A statement leading yourself into answering 20 questions. 1. Open to whom? Thais; tourists;? 2. Where is it struggling to find it on my maps....there is a wiang kaen on the Laos border. As you may not appreciate there are several border crossings but only for locals not riff raff like us.
grin Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Wiang Haeng is the most northwestern district of the Chiang Mai province, just west of Chiang Dao. This is a very scenic area and the drive up there is spectacular. There is a loop that is great on a motorcycle. There is a temple on a hilltop near the border crossing that overlooks several rows of fences in a steep valley. We are awaiting answers from family members to the questions about crossing. Grin
LivinLOS Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Various news items over the last 2 years have said they wish to make this from a Thai national (local region Myanmar only) crossing to an international one.. But that needs immigration staff on both side and a budget. Which each news report has said they dont have. Given the visa run tours have to drive far further to cross Mae Sai / Tachilek.. A shortcut and hence saving, would be eagerly jumped on by them and AFAIK none are going this way.. If its really open as a formal border crossing, with passport stamps, why are they not using it ?? Theres lot of unofficial border points where cross border trade is tolerated, but not for 'us' as non Thais.
mango66 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 looks like a good place to look at trees bird watching !!
