HAT YAI: -- Police with sniffer dogs randomly searched shophouses and houses in Yala’s municipal area in search of bombs after three more bombs hit the township Saturday night targeting a clinic, a furniture outlet and a plant shop.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the municipality had set aside a special budget to hire about 100 security guards to beef up security in the municipal area.

Yala mayor Pongsak Yingchomcharoen said he would hold a meeting with entrepreneurs and security officials to discuss security beefup which will include the installation of more security cameras in municipal area.

Entrepreneurs have demanded safety zone be expanded following the bomb blasts which hit areas outside the safety zone.

In Hat Yai, security officials in a bomb detection car scoured commercial areas and car parks in search of bombs following a spate of bomb blasts in Yala township on Friday and Saturday.

Road blocks were also set up as police searched suspicious cars and motorcycles.
