Thinking about buying one of these cars. Might get a small discount at Toyota so price wise there is not much to choose between them. Equipment fairly similar too although i like the paddle shift on the Suzuki. Anyone got either of these cars and can comment. I guess the Toyota will hold it's value better but i don't plan to sell it soon anyway.

Both are nice cars and I considered them too but finally decided on the new Jazz which I have had now for about a month and highly recommend.

i have a trd and have rented several times the swift .these cars are not comparable as one diesel hence a lot of pulling (torque) and the petrol horse power with high rpm .so for driving in a hilly country(or pulling trailer ) go for diesel .if you need to scream away from the lights go for petrol.i happen to prefer my trd as the economy is very good.diesels could be banned in big city (in discussion ).i have found the swift fuel consumption a bit heavy .

Neither one of these cars measures up to the far superior Honda Jazz. The dated engine/transmissions on both cars, the controls, the seating, do some research at Consumer Reports and I think you'll see the differences the Jazz offers. Yea, it's more money but I believe, say ouch once instead of over and over again.

Thanks for the replies. The Jazz looks a nice car but is in a different class price wise. I would be saying "ouch" every month making the payments. Honda piss me off as well with their attitude that because thais love Honda they can charge what ever they like.

I bought the Suzuki Swift GLX model Auto (or whatever the top model is) in 2012 and have been absolutely delighted with it (I believe the model you have spoken about is just about the same, with a few bells and whistles to make it look more attractive).

It has superb road handling and is very nippy for a 1.2 L engine, being able to change into "sports mode" if you need that little extra boost.

I found the interior space to be about the best in any car I had sampled and the layout suited me just fine, with plenty of head room. True the hatchback aspect of it with regards to room behind the back seats is quite limited, however the back seats do fold forward to allow more loading space if it is required.

As regards the "dated transmission" In the car, well the CVT Transmission has been around in one form or another since the 1950s and has obviously been improved over the years and is now at about its optimum design, making it ideal for smaller cars. And reading a report from a motoring magazine with regards to the engine in the Suzuki Swift, they basically said that Suzuki has been making high-quality small engines for many years and that is their forte, so they are sticking with what they know and what they do best.

That's my experience, and I would recommend the Suzuki Swift to anybody and everybody!!!

Just dropped into the Ford dealer. They are offering 90-100k off Fiestas at the moment which is tempting. The 1.5 Titanium AT only 619k, same as the other 2. Oh decisions !! I tried Honda but as usual not keen to have my business.

I like the Fiesta and discounts in Thailand are rare. Lot of the same mechanics as the Mazda 2. You may think from above that I'm a Jazz guy but I bought a Mazda 2.

I wanted a car four years ago. It was just after the Japanese Tsunami and there were no choices. Went to the the Honda dealer in Phuket, lead time on a Jazz was 5 months. I walked across the street to the Mazda dealer and had my choice of 10 cars. It's been a flawless car. My only criticism and this goes for the Fiesta which has the same body as the Mazda 2 is the pillar for the windshield obstructs vision. You'll see what I mean if you take it for a ride. You get use to it.

Just as an aside, after four years my Mazda 2 sits with 15k Kilometers. It's like the car the little old lady only drives on Sunday to church. It's in perfect condition. We're just on the motorbike all the time and drive the car only when we have to go shopping in Phuket town. It sees a little more use during the rainy season. Anyway, the Mazda 2 has been a great car and I'm sure will last the rest of my life at this rate.

The fiesta is very small, especially for rear passengers. OK if you have small kids I guess. The 1.0 turbo is also on discount and would be a much better buy than the 1.5 - better economy and performance. I have a swift btw and very happy with it. Plenty of power for around town and does 120-140 km/h without much sweat. Main complaint would be the body is a bit soft, and not as good noise insulation as my honda civic. Fuel economy is 50% better than the civic though:)

Only me and the tgf so size not a big issue. The 1.0 looks good but it's another 45,000 baht, hard to justify unless you do a big mileage. Odd that a 1.0 3 cylinder would cost so much more than a 1.5 4 cylinder.

I guess production costs are higher, but I think you should test drive it if possible. The 1.0 is much more powerful and more economical than the 1.5. I reckon I'd pay the extra 45K.
