DDPM: 49 provinces affected by tropical storms

BANGKOK, 20 May 2015 (NNT)-The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has revealed that 49 provinces have been affected by tropical storms.

According to DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert, storms have damaged more than 26,000 homes in 49 provinces. 14 people have also been killed and 25 more injured.

Provincial authorities and emergency units have visited stricken areas to assist affected residents and survey the damage. As for the ongoing drought crisis, at least 12,000 families in 36 provinces have so far been affected by water shortages.

The Director-General further added that the drought crisis in Chonburi has improved. Water has already been distributed to households for consumption, and to farmers in the province for farming purposes.
