Marriage Visa 60 days extension.

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone.

My 1 year marriage visa is coming to an end mid June. I wasnt able to get 400k in the bank in time, will only be able to put them in next week. So 2 months in the bank will be too late to extend for 1 year on 19th of June. However if I can remember correctly I can get 60 days extension on marriage visa first then do 1 year extension.

Can anyone tell me what documents are required for 60 days extension of marriage visa? What is the current up to date list of all documents?

Thank you.

Ubonjoe or anyone else

I'm at Chiang mai immigration now. When officers came out to give queue numbers I said my 1 year visa expires soon I need 60 days extension because I put money in a bank 2 weeks ago. They said there isn't 60 days extension. Is that true?

Of course it is not true. It is clause 2.24 of Police Order 327/2557 basis for extension of stay.

Even if I had one 60 days extension 2 years ago?

You wrote that they said there was no 60 day extension.

If you had a 60 day extension for the current permit to stay you have now you do not qualify one now. You can only get one 60 day extension per entry.

2 years ago I had 60 days extension then one year. Last time I had to change reason to teacher at gov school. Then moved again to marriage reason with 400k and they cancelled my old visa and gave me new one for 1 year based on marriage. So I guess I started fresh

Unless you left the country and re-entered with a new visa or an exempt entry you are still on the same permit to stay.

You apparently changed the reason for your extension of stay twice by having your existing extension canceled (it is not a visa) and applying for a new one.

So my only choice now not to leave and get extension is to change reason again since I work at gov University. Will that work?

You can try that, but now not all immigration offices will allow it. They might send you out to get a non-B visa.

If your income is 40k baht or more you can apply for the extension based upon marriage by showing your work permit and tax payments.

Not sure they will still do a change of the reason from marriage to working now. Other immigration offices will not do it due to a change of procedures.

It's less than 40:( no options but to leave and make new visa. Or I have any other options

Ubonjoe what if I make reentry permit cross border and comeback can I get another 60 days extension then?

A re-entry eprmit will not change anything. It just keeps your current permssion to stay alive. You wil not get a 60 day extension on it.

Damn I guess no options. :((((

Why so complicated. I wish I could change marriage to nonb without leaving

So they told me maybe Chiang rai immigration can change reason for extension but not sure. However they advise to go to Laos and get marriage visa again

You can only use the immirgaiton office for the area where you are living. You cannot "shop around".

If you want to stay based on employment better to get a non-B visa.

Mario I actually can between Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. My wife is registered in Lampang, so I have to go to CM for marriage extension. If I extend as a teacher then I have to go to CR, because I work in Phayao. They told me that at the immigration.

In Any case. I might go to Laos next week. There is a flight and shuttle service by NOk air from Chiang Mai to Udon then to Vientiane. Has anyone been to Laos consulate recently how is the situation there? I have been there back in 2009. It was packed!!!

You can apply for the extension of stay based upon marriage where your are living. It does not have to be where your wife's house book registry is for.

You just have to show proof of residence for where you are applying.

Vientiane is still good for getting visas. Just don't go on Monday or Thursday when the visa run vans show up.

I realize this is an older thread already but was just curious about something..........

Since OP has already been here a year+ & missed his banking funding date.....

I was curious wasn't he mistaken anyway about 2 months funds seasoning for his extension?

Since it is not his 1st wouldn't it have had to have been seasoned 3 months?

Just curious as I thought only the first time is a 2 month seasoning accepted.

Is it because if he extended 60 days he was basically starting anew?

I would have guessed not since it was still his 1+ year old visa he was intending to extend

Or has seasoning of funds rules changed now?

The seasoning of funds for Marriage Extension is 2 months in the bank and always has been.
