PM on low rubber price issue

BANGKOK, 23 May 2015 (NNT) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday indicated the price of rubber has been improved from the earlier 50 baht a kilogram.

He said the rise signified a positive sign, though in a short term, and what the government must do was to draw up contingency measures against recurrence of price drop in the future.

He stated the government must reduce illegal rubber plantations while finding a suitable legal solution for both planters and investors.

He also highlighted the importance of ways to reduce production cost in the same way as rice farming, saying measures should be taken to streamline the entire production process. General Prayut said those solutions need contribution from all sides, not just from the government.

General Prayut suggested approaches must be established to help rubber growers earn more, create value chain and connectivity with other Small & Medium Enterprises and exporters.

He said the local agricultural sector would become stronger, if government officials work closely with them farmers.
