Trang Airport enlargement nears completion

TRANG, 23 May 2015 (NNT) – Trang Airport has announced its readiness to welcome a larger number of passenger flights, as its apron enlargement project is close to completion.

Acting Director of Trang Airport Prachuab Nathong said Trang Airport is now ready to handle more arriving and departing flights as its new apron is going to be serviceable very soon. The airport’s old apron could accommodate one medium sized commercial aircraft and two small ones. With the completion of the new apron and its four bays, the airport can now handle five medium sized aircraft at the same time.

Trang Airport currently serves six flights from Bangkok daily. The number of Bangkok-Trang flights is expected to rise to nine in June. However, the number of domestic and international flights is likely to soar, mainly due to the emergence of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

In 2008, the average number of passengers arriving at Trang Airport was a little over 100,000. Passenger numbers jumped to more than 500,000 in 2014.
