NATIONAL REFORM COUNCIL
Boonlert proposes amnesty for demonstrators

BANGKOK: -- Boonlert Kachayutthadej, a member of the National Reform Council, proposed on Tuesday that a provisional clause granting protesters amnesty be included in the charter along with the removal of some independent organisations.

He announced in Parliament that he had submitted a personal petition for the charter amendment, which included the suggestion to drop the National Strategic as well as the Reconciliation Committees.

Boonlert said he'd proposed that the Constitution Drafting Committee add a provisional clause to grant amnesty to those who demonstrated in the leadups to 2006 and 2014 coups, excluding the leaders and those charged under Article 112 or with other serious criminal cases.

This principle had been approved by politicians, as well as protest leaders of all sides and proposed in a bill to the Parliament. However, it was rejected, leading to court cases and imprisonment of the perpetrators.

As long as they keep 112 in place, everything else is just make-up!!

Especially with the legislative, the executive and the judiciary powers in the hand of one man; Mr P !!

What is it with this continual "amnesty"?

Everyone taking part in the protests (on both/either/all sides) knew they were breaking the law(s), and they made a choice to participate and to break those laws.

At some point, Thai's are gonna need to learn there are (usually) consequences for their actions and for breaking the law(s). Or not.

They put so many assemblies and committees in the charter that they can drop a few without noticeable effect on the power of appointed people. :)

If they define protesters as those who take over hospitals and TV stations, I am against any amnesty. Why would any protester who didn't break other laws be arrested in the first place? Are there hundreds of thousands of protesters under indictment? I'm betting they are stretching the definition of protester to include those who did more than simply show up at a protest site. There's ALWAYS an ulterior motive with these things. No amnesty ever except what His Majesty offers once a year and then it's for those who have served some time.

Isn't this how all the trouble started recently - an amnesty for the protesters not the leaders - which subsequently morphed into a bring Taksin home bill effectively?

The could make this little word inside.

...... who peacefull demonstrated .........

excluding the leaders and those charged under Article 112 or with other serious criminal cases.

.....with other serious criminal cases.
