Min of Labor looks to increase skilled workers in Thailand

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Labor has recently held an executive forum to find ways to improve skilled labor in Thailand before the arrival of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

According to Labor Minister General Surasak Kanjanarat, academics and experts from both private and public sectors were invited to share their insight and advice on how to improve skill development and increase labor competitiveness.

The forum was focused on the tourism and auto industries. Thailand needs more tour guides with greater foreign language fluency, as the number of tourists increases each year.

General Surasak claimed that the cost of labor was not the reason foreign investors moved their production bases away from Thailand. Many have chosen Thailand due to its skilled labor.

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Culture will hold a month of wearing Thai textiles in August to honor Her Majesty the Queen on occasion of her 83th birthday anniversary on 12 August 2015.

The campaign was revealed by Minister of Culture Weera Rotephotchanarat at a meeting to convey his policy to Culture officials in 20 northeastern provinces held in Khon Kaen. He said the campaign will promote the value and benefits of Thai textiles while paying tribute to HM the Queen who has made great contributions to the preservation of Thai textiles.

"The ministry will lead a campaign to encourage people to wear Thai textiles during August, the month of the Queen's birthday, and we will ask media personalities such as news anchors to wear clothes made from native textiles to motivate the public to follow suit," said Mr.Weera.

According to an official survey, more than 40,000 Thai households were using garments made from silk while 30,000 others were wearing apparel made from ramie or linen, and other kinds of hand weaving cloth. The sale of Thai silk both in domestic and export markets brings in more than seven billion baht annually.

Mr.Weera also revealed that the ministry has coordinated with educational institutions to develop patterns and designs of Thai textiles to make them suitable to the environment and preference of people in the modern era. Each province will be assigned to organize a Thai Textile Market to provide an easy access to the materials for local residents.

In a long-term promotion plan, the Culture Ministry will publish a directory of Thai textile suppliers and open a related webpage to facilitate direct contacts between suppliers and buyers.
