land visa crossing - applied for new UK passport already...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I applied for my new UK passport on Monday. Today at Chaeng Wattana I had problems extending my non-B. My visa expires on the 2nd June. I feel my best option is to come back in on a tourist exempt 30 day. My passport is valid but nearly full. I can't go to Cambodia because of the space it requires for their visa. I am not entirely sure if my passport has been cancelled in the UK, but I still have it intact. I am hoping it will be good to cross over tomorrow or Thursday in Malaysia. Can anyone advise whether their system may pick up that I have applied for a new passport, making me in nomansland? I know that to fly would be a big no-no. Hope this makes sense - if not, please ask for clarification. I would really appreciate any advice anyone can give on this matter (I wouldn't have applied for the passport first but was advised to as urgent). Many Thanks

Your passport has/will probably been cancelled, but that info is normally only shared within the EU.

If you go out and return with a tourist visa you will have to arrange all paperwork and apply abroad for a new non-B visa. If possible try to get the extension this week.

thank you so much. would it show up on airport systems if I flew to malaysia for example do you think? I can't extend my non-B due to paperwork issues for the company. I'm also leaving on July 1st for England. My idea was to be on a tourist for 1 month, leave, and sort it in England or when I come back!

Can't say for sure if it will turn up or not. Don't know what information the UK and Malaysia exchange, but not that likely.

While on a tourist visa you are not allowed to work.

It is unlikely that the passport will be identified as being invalid for international travel .

However, it is your decision as to whether the risk of discovery is worth taking.

An "E" visa is available for Cambodia which avoids the need for a whole page visa sticker.

good advice all round and much appreciated - haven't chewed the fat with anyone about it so thanks guys

The current passport isn't cancelled until you take delivery of the new passport. People from the UK applying for a new passport while living in Thailand are the exception to the norm

A misleading post !

" You can’t travel with it after you’ve applied for a new one - but you will be able to keep your existing passport for ID purposes."
Check here !

How did you apply for your new passport without surrendering your existing passport?

How did you apply for your new passport without surrendering your existing passport?

Because you do not need to . See link post above.

yes, already knew about the 'id purposes' etc. I can't get an ETD for purposes of visa so......thanks all, but i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, ie, 'simple language' - i can't stay until my new passport comes, I can't get an ETD, so i have to go, but can't really travel on my old passport or etc so....!! I shall do the best I can!

thanks to NZ especially

I am NOT advising you do this but if I were you I would book a flight to Penang ,Malaysia and secure a tourist visa assuming there is space in the pp for a few small stamps smile.png

thank you. there is nearly a whole page for stamps so should be OK. I only need 30 days and think at this stage tourist is the way to go. I was concerned about flying and the computer systems hence the malaysian border instead, flying to hat yai then taking the bus...

My passport is valid but nearly full.

Valid for how many more months? Some other countries won't admit you with expiration less than x months.

  • Author

it is valid until 2020. it's nearly full and is not really valid as I've applied for a replacement already.

I think I have all the answers so unless anyone else has some really solid info we can close this! thanks
