Conflicting prices for marriage at Amphur office.

Featured Replies

I'm confused, two guys on the Pattaya Forum said they only paid 40 baht to be married at the Amphur office, however when my Thai lady rang this morning she was quoted 300 baht. How can there be that kind of difference?

guys on the Pataya forum are usually drunk or on drugs. Perhaps they got the BG discount.

I paid around 250 baht for mine about 15 years ago.

Trust the officials at the Amphur over random drunks from Pataya.

I have a suspicion for that price it may have been a Thai wedding, which is basically worthless outside of Thailand.

I've still got the official receipt for 40 Baht from my marriage registration in 2552 (2009).

This was the official marriage registration fee at Amphur Bang Rak in Bangkok.

There were a couple of extra amounts that were optional extras. I got extra certified copies of the marriage registration plus bought one of their padded folders for the certificates. The certified copies are worth it in the future if you ever lose your certificate. They were minimal cost 10 or 15 Baht each. I can't remember the cost of the certificate folder.

The main cost of marriage was embassy stat dec, translation and MFA stamp.

Then you got screwed at your upcountry amphur office. The price

for a wedding, which I just paid for five months ago, is 40 baht at

Ban Rak in Bangkok. Perhaps you need to read the current

thread on TV about officials charging more than the correct

amount for a official document..... cheesy.gif

Sigh......Google is a friend to me, but perhaps is an enemy to you.

A government marriage in Thailand is fully recognized in America , not sure where you are from. If you have a village wedding involving

a lot of string, dead chickens, and free loading relatives, then of course that is not recognized...

My Thai lady rang this morning and was told it is 300 baht, so it's not like they saw a falang coming. So are you telling me the price she was quoted is wrong and she's being ripped off?

The two guys who supposedly only paid 40 baht, also said they never went to their embassy, got a translation and had it approved by the Thai Consulate, which I did as per Google instructions, so how is their marriage possibly legal? I was talking about a village wedding BTW, I know that a Thai government wedding is accepted worldwide. Don't assume everyone isn't as smart as you.

You were definitely done ... I got married in early 2003, in Bangkok and it either cost me 10baht or 30baht ... it was definitely one of those two. Of course since then I have paid the price ... she is worth every baht though and more.

No idea who else you are talking about. I went to the embassy first, went to the MFA the following morning, and was at Ban Rak in the afternoon getting married. And the cost was indeed 40 baht. And my marriage must be legal, as I just got my wife an immigrant visa for America based upon us being married here. Village weddings involving string and chickens do not bear discussion in regards to the matter of being married legally....

Here is a link that I posted about getting married in January so I am not telling lies as you are suggesting.

People like you get ripped off because you believe what you want to hear not the facts. Ask questions on one forum, dont like the answers so start another thread and slag the people off that have tried to help you. I paid 40 baht to the amphur to get married. This is now all legal.

p.s. I am not drunk or on drugs and yes I do go on the pattaya forum although I dont live there.

Sounds like you got ripped off paying 390 baht for a 30 baht folder.

We were married in Phayao in 2012 and paid 20 baht at the Amphur. I did obtain documents from my embassy and after translation MFA approved. They were a lot more expensive.

Folder could not be produced for 30 baht, padded velvet, gold inscriptions, and a beautiful photo of us, a very happy couple inside with a framed receipt for 40 baht marriage fee.clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

All this is new to me. So to get married at amphur I need:

1/ A stat dec from the Australian Embassy declaring I am who I am. I have to travel to Bangkok for that.

2/ A certified translation of the stat dec at MFA. What is full name of the MFA? Is it near the embassy?

3/ Original and copies of Thai marriage application.

If I recall correctly, our wedding was about 200 baht in 2010. 2 x marriage certificates, 2 x plastic wallets, witnesses fee and a nice chat with the senior officer about the football along with the efficient and professional service that the amphur's staff provided.

Didn't feel ripped off at £3.70 for a pleasant half hour.

490 baht, actually. LOL.

Suddenly, the figures don't quite add up.

Nice one, giddyup.

Affirmation of freedom to marry certificate. Travel to your embassy, yes.

Yes, translated and notarised at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Not near the embassy, really.

3/ Original and copies of Thai marriage application.

For what? Future marriage and settlement visa application?

Thanks for the info. The wife and I plan to make our union legal. And that will put me in a position for a marriage visa.

After 4.8 years in LOS there is still a lot I don't know yet!
