Two South Korean men arrested with 50 used smartphones in Nong Khai

NONG KHAI: -- Two South Korean men were arrested by Nong Khai immigration officers at 7:30 pm Saturday on charge of smuggling 50 used smartphones into country.

Police said 30 used Samsung Note 2 smartphones were found in a bag of Chunsic Jeong, 40 and 20 used iPhone 5 phones were found in a bag of Jongpil Kim, 41. The two said they were delivering the phones to customers in Malaysia.

Police on manhunt for sole knifeman in Phuket stabbing murder, attempted murder

PHUKET: Police are confident they will swiftly arrest the knifeman who single-handedly stabbed two 21-year-old men, one fatally, in a post-party brawl in Phuket City's Talaid Yai sub district in the early hour's of this morning.

Land Transport Department denies old type driving licenses canceled

BANGKOK: -- Land Transport Department Director General Thirapong Rodprasert denied that his department planned to cancel driving licenses and to replace them with smartcards immediately.

Thirapong said online social networkers should stop spreading the false information. He said his department had no plan to force drivers to replace their license with smartcards. They could continue to use the license card until it expires.

36 provinces declared drought disaster area

BANGKOK, 31 May 2015 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has declared 36 provinces as drought disaster areas in need of emergency help, with 8 provinces categorized as severe disaster areas.

DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert has revealed that 36 provinces in Thailand have been declared as drought disaster areas and is set to receive emergency aid. Twelve of these provinces are in the northern region, ten in the northeastern region, seven in the central region, three in the eastern region, and four provinces in the southern region.

8 entire provinces have also been declared as severe drought disaster areas, namely Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Phrae, Saraburi, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo and Trang.

The affected provinces has been be provided with help from the Ministry of Interior and the military, with water supply for consumption and cultivation being delivered, while the Department of Water Resource has provided water pumps and filled up natural water sources as a form of relief for the public residing in the 28 provinces.

Watchdog says ex-Nazis got $20.2 million in Social Security

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a forthcoming report triggered by an Associated Press investigation, the top watchdog at the Social Security Administration found the agency paid $20.2 million in benefits to more than 130 suspected Nazi war criminals, SS guards, and others who may have participated in the Third Reich's atrocities during World War II.
