We're thinking of going next week, for a week, nice and reletively cheap with Air Asia (9.5k baht).

Is it still true that we can get a 3 month validity 60 day tourist visa there (or better)?

I read on this forum it's 4 days turnaroud which is fine, we could do the first and last days of the trip or does it have to be 4 days spot on?

Any recs on where to go, eat or play in Sri Lanka?

(Happy to report back any latest findings when we hopefully come back :))

Visa for you or your wife?

Visa on arrival no issues, depending where you are from, 30 days but you can apply for a 2 month extension after you enter.

Kandy is a good spot, trek up to Adams peak for sunrise, beautiful.

OP: If you're into beaches, clean sea and some good food for a while recommend staying at Unawatuna Beach. I stayed at Hotel La Veranda di Serena that I would recommend. You can contact them directly for a better rate than Agoda. Not too far to Galle and other places if you want to look around whilst in the area.

OK, we're now thinking we can get the visa from KL then go on to Sri Lanka on the jolly. I tried to find the information but the page is a dead link.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a visa in KL, is it tricky? WHich can I get?

You should be able to secure single entry tourist visas dependent on your Nationality and past visa history.

Check the KL website for further detail/information

The link I posted works for me.

KL is not the best place to get any visa. They are not predictable as to what they will want.

Visa on arrival when UK and Thai went 18 mths ago.

Kandy is nice colonial town. You can also do some inland trips to really nice scenery from there. You can take a scenic train ride from Colombo to get there but make sure go first class

The tea plantations, a further 3-4h away are stunning and you can stay in old tea factories converted to hotels

Hiring a driver when you are there is also a good idea. Cheap and easy to get around. ( we hired driver in Kandy and kept him for about 5 days - he drove us to the tea plantations, stays in some cheap digs at the hotels and then he drove us back to Colombo

Colombo nothing special

Halle and the coast 2-3h S Colombo is beautiful

Really enjoyed Sri Lanka

Hello OP,

First you can apply online to get a tourist visa to visit Sri Lanka at the official immigration website http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/

To apply for a Thai Visa in Colombo it takes 3 to 4 working days. And You can get double entry and triple entry visas. It is fairly painless to apply if you go to the emabssy at about 9 am you can be out in about an hour. and pick up in the afternoon on the given date.

For places to visit in Sri Lanka, it all depends on your taste. There are mountains in the hill country, Try Nuwara Eliya, Badulla Bandarawela. Greaat Nature and waterfalls.

For Beaches, try Galle, Hikkaduwa, Trincomalee and Negombo.

Be careful of Tuk tuk drivers and even any rental hire vehicle. They will try to take you to places they get comm.

The Airport is approx an hours drive from the City of Colombo.

Any questions you can PM me.

Regards

Nightlife is not as it is in Thailand, Philipines it is limited to discos and a few bars. But they are for good clean fun.

Stop in Penang after Sri lanka for your visa. As Ubonjoe said KL nnot dependable anymore. Almost certain you will not get in Sri Lanka. You cannot get a Thai Visa in India anymore unless you are a resident of India so it's likely Sri Lanka has the same rules but you will find out for sure after you get there. The Thai embassy of Sri lanka may say double or triple entry but they would bbe referring to residents only. Worst case scenario just come bback with nno visa get 30 days and then go to Laos for your visa.

I think we are going to wing it and go to sri lanka and do the visa there. If we can't we'll just do a 30 day tourist visa and go somewhere elese, enjoying the trips:) Have emailed the embassey but no reply as yet. Booking the flights.

As others have said you should enjoy your trip. I & my Thai wife certainly did so, with some really good food, clean sea, beaches, hill country etc Overall cleaner, more foreign tourist orientated environment than Thailand. In comparison to Thailand a lot less street / stray dogs everywhere you go.

If your GF is into that scene, quite a few Thais go to Sri Lanka to visit the Buddhist temples

Just an update on this. I called the Consulate in Colombo and they still do a 60 day, single entry. You need to go in between 9am and 11am to get it. Great stuff. I'll let you know if this changes or if there is anything tricky.

Thanks for all the travel tips guys. We're going to head down to Galle (on the train, eek) and then go from there, looks epic.
