M.R. Pridiyathorn: 5% growth achievement of present govt.

BANGKOK, 5 June 2015 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula has claimed that the present administration had made the economy expand by 5% while pledging to prevent energy shortage in Thailand.

The deputy premier on Thursday said the Thai economic growth in the first quarter 2014 was -0.4%, the second quarter 0.9% and the third quarter 1%. After the Prayut Chan-o-ocha took office, the fourth quarter growth increased to 2.1% and the first quarter this year 3%. The economy had been continuously recovering despite exports’ 2.5% negative growth rate, the deputy PM said.

M.R. Pridiyathorn emphasized that the government sought to improve three foundations of the Thai economy, including the industrial sector, tax structure and digital economy. Once the three foundations were more solid, the Thai economic growth rate would like stand at 5%, he said.

As for concerns over energy shortage, the deputy PM said it was necessary for the government to find new energy sources, confirming he would make sure that the best options would be selected.

The Deputy PM is making a very conservative and safe prediction. Over the long term, a 5% growth rate in GDP would be typical for Thailand. Note that the DPM has not specified a time frame for this return to growth as usual. He simply predicted it would happen again.

All told, he said very little.

How do they get to the 5% growth, we havent seen that kind of growth since 2012 and will not see it soon again. Have someone been ingorant enough to add the quarterly growth to get to 5% annual growth rate?

Clearly the man does not know the difference, and is mixing and matching to get his preferred results. But hey its sounds good.

and 5% 'someday' is considerably below the current growth rate of Thailand's neighbors.

"Devakula has claimed that the present administration had made the economy expand by 5%"

NO....he is projecting that despite a first quarter of 3%, the annual growth rate will still be 5%. This means the remaining quarterly growth rates must actually EXCEED 5% to make up the loss in the first quarter.

Devakula should be called the deputy PM for esoteric affairs.

Despite his connections, M.R. Pridiyathorn has proven himself to be the most incompetent of a supremely sub par bunch and is thus about to obtain the grandiose honour of being the first NCPO member sacked - you'd think his record of low achievement after the 2006 coup would have been enough evidence for all to agree that Thailand need not ever have to suffer under the economic "leadership" of this goon again.

Maybe because unlike you I do not have such good contacts with / within the NCPO. Could you please tell me more about this ?

Ah, the rumour which you cut and passed out of a BangkokPost article justifies your "is thus about to obtain the grandiose honour of being the first NCPO member sacked"

Actually that BangkokPost article let's the PM say that strength and flaws of current ministers would be discussed in the cabinet before any decision would be made about possible reshuffles and/or replacements.

BTW the cabinet is not equivalent to the NCPO and as far as I know MR Pridiyathorn is not a member of the NCPO.

This is the second time in a matter of months rumours have been circulating that this bozo will get the chop, this time around they've gone the extra step and named a replacement.

The Nation....

BOT governor dismisses appointment rumour - The Nation

Much like the class of 2006 - the current mob are again proving that military Juntas cannot manage modern economies.

The Thai people are surprisingly patient when it comes to politics, what they are not patient with is economic mismanagement that directly effects their daily lives - the Junta knows this and are looking for a scapegoat for their extreme incompetence in this critical area.

Bye-bye Pridy!

Well, if not this second time, maybe the third time it gets mentioned.

BTW Pridy is Dept. PM for Economical Affairs, but who's the Minister of Economy?

As for managing modern economies, well maybe invite the Greece Economical Team? Maybe hire George W. Bush as advisor?

PS like I wrote before Pridy is not a member of the NCPO, but a member of cabinet.
