Internal Folding Doors

Featured Replies

Im looking to fit a folding internal door(s)to fit a space about 5 metres wide I dont mind what material

Any suggestions where to get some good quailty ones

Cheers

Do you mean bi-fold doors? When we wanted some for a closet space, we couldn't find sets of bi-fold doors, but the contractor made them out of actual doors that he put together with hinge hardware. They're somewhat heavier and each panel is wider than traditional bi-fold doors, but they are very sturdy. It helped that the opening wasn't fixed, but was part of what was being designed.

If the opening is already fixed and you're trying to fitpost-68373-0-77744500-1433867741_thumb.j doors to the opening, you're going to have more of a problem.

Here is what I'm talking about:

Its appears like you need a garage door at 5m wide.

Seriously that is a big span and needs a serious piece of hanging tracks top and bottom.

Made from cheap eggbox timber door panels you will need 8 doors at 600mm. Without quality rollers you would never even be able to push those light doors open.

Another option is find a concertina sliding screen very lightweight and dont take up as much space. I think it would be an imported item maybe via index or home pro.

Difficult to interpret your requirement but is it not feasible to build out some new wing walls and reduce your opening to a maximum of 3m then you can fit 4 standard doors sling 2 each side?

Another option are sliding doors. Here are a couple of options. post-68373-0-39233300-1433902218_thumb.jpost-68373-0-48422500-1433902240_thumb.j

Rob, could you give us more details about what your design needs. Is this a space in your living area, or a storage area that no one sees or what?

Recently we did a remodel in our condo and basically removed a bedroom that was nothing but a junk storage room, creating much-needed extra space in the living area and some well-designed storage areas (for the junk) As you can tell, I did research on how to create organized closets and store junk neatly behind good looking doors (in a fraction of the space of a bedroom) Oh, it helped to declutter some of the junk, too.

Nothing like having a good spring clean every now and then; unfortunately my GF just moves the junk from one room and into another. It does look tidy for a week or so and then its time for another "spring clean". Bit of a vicious circle really tongue.png

In regards the OP..... yes we need more details in order to give a better answer.

Its a living area which is L shaped and I'd like to be able to close it at times to make one oblong room

My idea is to have a folding or concertina type door(s) that can be pulled across the space which is about 4.2m x 2.5m

Cheers

OK -- now we're getting the idea. Do a google search on the terms "interior sliding doors" and "interior bifold doors" and then click on the option to look at "images" You'll be overwhelmed with ideas.

Another, cheaper option is to use several folding screens, like these. You can get low cost ones at the Chang Moi Road wicker furniture shops. Great for hiding little junk piles in the the condo and the cats like to climb on them, too.
