I am about to apply for a non-imm OA in Australia,I have sufficient funds in a Thai savings account to satisfy the 800,000 thb required.

I also have the medical and police reports required

My question is do these funds in the Thai bank need to be "seasoned" before they can be used in my application?

Posted

I think seasoning is not required for home country O-A.

Yes, usually people show funds in the home country for home country O-As if using a money showing method (rather than income).

I wasn't aware that they would never accept showing funds in a Thai account though for that.

Is that specifically about Australia?

If this is a problem for the OP, he can forget about an O-A and get a single O visa somewhere (even at Bangkok immigration) and then start with an annual retirement extension. Then the Thai bank money can be used and requires two months seasoning for the first extension.

If the money is already in a Thai bank I cannot understand why you are mucking about with a Non Imm O-A Visa.

You can get the extension in Thailand at a fraction of the price and no need for medical or police report.

I doubt if they will accept your application anyway as the money is not in your Australian bank.

Cost of Non Imm O Visa. 2,000 Baht

Cost of Extension. 1,900 Baht.

Cost of letter from Thai bank. Around 200 Baht.

2.22 In the case of retirement:

Each permission shall be granted for no more than one year.

The alien:

(1) Must have been granted a non-immigrant visa (NON-IM).
(2) Must be 50 years of age or over.
(3) Must have evidence of having income of no less than Baht 65,000 per month: or (4) On the filing date, the applicant must have funds deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than Baht 800,000 for the past three months. For the first year only, the applicant must have proof of a deposit account in which said amount of funds has been maintained for no less than 60 days prior to the filing date: or
(5) Must have an annual earning and fluids deposited with a bank totaling no less than Baht 800,0000 as of the filing date.

I can think of several reasons including the fact that a Non Imm O-A visa can last up to two years, you don't have to muck about with local Thai Immigration offices, it comes with a multiple re-entry permit attached for the first year, and that your "fraction of the price" is misleading because you don't factor in re-entry permit costs or the cost of the second year extension of permission to stay.

Considering the OP already has a police/medical report, not much left to do for the O-A and much more benefit to it, IMO.

But his money is already in a Thai Bank and dealing with Thai Immigration is not a problem if you prepare properly.

Retirement Extension is easy.

Alt though the file form the embassy dose not state it has to be in an Australian bank. The following from it raises question as to what you could show as proof for your Thai bank account.

It says a bank statement. Do you have one that meets the requirements from your Thai bank?

Also have you had the documents bound and notarized yet. I understand that can be costly.

I am of the opinion you could of saved yourself a lot of effort and cost by applying for an extension of stay here at immigration.

Hi Joe thanks for your input, you can see in the footnote of the application requirements form,in clause 3 it is shown that docs certified by a JP are acceptable.

my original question was do my bank monies need to be seasoned,if not then this application for Imm-OA M will cost me 6000thb,and not having to go anywhere near CW

If applying for an O/A visa the funds do not have to be "seasoned" just demonstrable.

The point about any bank documents having to be sighned and stamped by a bank officer seems to be very specific. However, I am sure you have taken advise about this directly from the Embassy

Have just reconfirmed with RTE Canberra that a downloaded Thai savings bank statement showing a sufficient BALANCE and certified by a JP is acceptable for Non-Imm OA application.

Thanks to all
