I have three condos in Bangkok and each has TRUE internet connections, but each place has a different method of connection. I'm trying to understand why and perhaps the tech experts here can kindly shed some light.

DIFFERENT CONNECTION METHODS

The connections are as follows:

PLACE 1 newest: Special cable modem/router plugged into wall (CABLE internet?) (monthly fee = Baht 748)

PLACE 2 newish: Router plugged into wall (ADSL2+? or VDSL2?) (monthly fee = Baht 962)

PLACE 3 oldest: Router connected into a landline telephone (ADSL?) (monthly fee = Baht 962 + landline TOT fee of Baht 107)

QUESTIONS

Are the above tech descriptions (CABLE, ADSL2+, VDSL2 and ADSL) accurate?

Is there any way to convert PLACE 2 and PLACE 3 into the CABLE modem connection (to make everything uniform and cheaper)?

Why does PLACE 3 need a landline telephone when PLACE 2 does not??

Internet can be delivered over different medium, as you have discovered.

It can be delivered over

Copper Telephone Lines (shared with Telephone Service) -- long haul adsl2+ speed normally up to 15Mbps

Copper Lines -- short haul xdsl speeds up to 50Mbps

Copper Lines -- short haul vdsl speed up to 100 Mbps. It is especially designed to extend Cable or Fiber connections into high-rise buildings
Coaxial Cable (shared with Cable TV Service) -- DOCSIS cable modem speeds up to 200Mbps

Fibre Optic glass cable -- long and short haul, speeds up to 1Gbps

Wireless Radio Link -- long haul service where there are no wires.

Satellite Radio Link -- extremely long haul service, and extremely slow and delayed.

Internet Service is delivered over the medium available in the location, or via building agreements.

The reason you have to pay a TOT fee in location #3 is because TOT owns the copper wires used to deliver the service there.

Sometimes Fiber Service can't go all the way, so they terminate the Fiber close by and deliver the signal via xdsl or vdsl over copper.

Some people have more luck with a True DOCSIS Cable Internet vs True adsl. The telephone wires in Thailand are really in bad shape.

You can always contact TRUE and ask them what types of service are available to those locations (adsl, xdsl, vdsl, cable, fiber).

Presume you are also aware there are different speed plan prices so even with the same connection you could have different prices?

Agreed. I would be more concerned with the speed/data plan than the type of physical connection.

for prices and plans (True Online) all in Bangkok:

PLACE 1 (new): 18Mb /1.8Mb in the DOCSIS cable connection for Baht 699 +VAT

PLACE 2 (newish): 13Mb /1Mb in the ADSL connection for Baht 899 +VAT

PLACE 3 (oldest): 13Mb /1Mb in the ADSL connection for Baht 899 +VAT (PLUS Baht 100 +VAT to TOT for the required landline)
