GinBoy2
I have just realized, they absolutely MUST have one, ready to counter what all the good Juntanista's know is coming....a secret underwater attack financed by entities based 'abroad'. I always knew all that damage to those Pattaya jetski's was being perpetrated by unseen, and as we now discover, underwater hands. Thank God there are cool heads, guiding this stately Ship of State <coughs>
727Sky
Should maybe but unlikely to happen and as for the truth as to what they're needed for, is a firm reason needed, try face. try face Try 'kick-back' to an offshore bank account. That's why they don't buy quality used or from Germany of Sweden. Those countries won't build crap to satisfy a price that allows for 'padding'. Problems in China's submarine program? http://www.lowyinterpreter.org/post/2013/04/24/Problems-in-Chinas-submarine-program.aspx . By your posted link if China can not build their own darn subs that work why would Thailand even consider such a purchase unless there truly is an off shore account waiting for the enablers and buyers ? It may be more about abuse of power. I suspect the sub deal may be part of the dual rail purchase from China. The Junta is borrowing funds from the Chinese government to pay for the system at a below-market interest rate with up to a five-year deferral on loan payments. Such a loan would seem a disadvantage to China. BUT Purchase of a weapons system from China with a followup 10-year parts supply contract would generate enough profit for China to help make up for the low interest loan. The Junta hasn't been very transparent about the details of the dual rail system. If the subs are part of the dual rail system, it's unlikely the Junta can reverse its acquisition of the subs without paying more for the rail system. pitchag
Possibly the money could be spent on up grading the army equipment, from the old Vietnam era rifles with the modern bullpup Steyrs and some modern body protection eqipment that the Thai army is lacking and they are the only ones in harms way, you never hear of a Navy or Air force casualty only the Army down south getting shot at. You honestly believe that Thailand (and most other smaller armies or navies) buy what they need or what they can generate the biggest kick back with? soalbundy
I'd like a good Chinese sub myself but the missus would object.
Jay Sata
We all saw what happened with their airship. A total disaster just like the fake bomb detectors. What exactly will the Thai sailors be doing beneath the waves? What do they need to see down there? Their aircraft and helicopters come to grief on a regular basis so we can expect the same when they are let loose in a submarine.
