adhd medication to Thailand. (Vyvanse/Elvanse(lisdextroamphetamine))

So,

I am moving to thailand for 4 months and will be writing a thesis during my stay and thus my prescribed medication is of significant importance.

The Governmental pharmaceutical organisation in my country will issue a letter describing the allowance and details with regards to the medication.

Further, the prescribing psychiatrist will give a detailed letter describing the necessity, dosages and other required information.
Even going through these formalities, I understand that my prescribed medication could be a problem.

Methylphenidate is a very bad compromise between functioning and quality of life.

Last resort. Modafinil could help but is not available in Thailand?

How can i safely take with me my medication to Thailand?
Best regards/

Dextroamphetamine in any form is a banned substance in Thailand and you cannot legally bring it into the country or possess it under any circumstances. Doctor's note makes no difference as it is Schedule 1 (altogether banned) as opposed to schedule 2 or 3 (controlled). See http://narcotic.fda.moph.go.th/faq/faq.php#20120519113048

Do not try to get around this as penalties can be very severe. Thailand has a significant problem with amphetamine abuse and draconian laws to match.

So if you are going to come to Thailand you are going to have to take an alternative drug such as Methylphenidate, which is schedule 2 - controlled (have to get from a hospital) but allowed. I suggest you make the change now while still home and under the care of your usual doctor so that you can see how it goes. To bring methylphenidate into Thailand with you is allowed up to a 30 day supply with prescription and doctor note as described here :

http://narcotic.fda.moph.go.th/faq/upload/guidance%20for%20travelers%20version%204.doc._e1a4.pdf

Beyond 30 days you will need to get it prescribed at a hospital, which can be done but as there are not many Thai psychiatrists familiar with ADHD in adults, some people have had trouble. If you will be in or near Bangkok, Manoram Hospital is best option, ask for a doctor specializing in ADHD. http://www.manarom.com/index_eng.html

A friend of mine was recently prescribed and received Vyvanse 50mg at BNH for binge eating disorder. So it's now available in Thailand.

Vyvanse is not registered for use in Thailand. The hospital must have brought it in from abroad. It is, however, apparently legal as the generic is listed in MIMS.

If OP thinks Vyvanse will work, suggest emailing the following to get clarification of whether he can get a permit to legally bring it in : [email protected]

Note however that even if the answer is yes, the limit is 30 day supply.

OP, For your information, I know a few people bring the meds (vyvanse)for personal use into thailand, off course they do carry their script.
