A James wrote just this title in 2011 but it seems to have been archived whcih seems to mean no more replies and cannot find on a TV search.

So like him I'm asking about yoga classes in CM which aren't the tourist oriented farang ones which seem to me expensive for a resident, about 250 bt up.

When I'm in Chiangrai I attend a yoga class whcih is 3x daily and costs maximum 80 baht/class or 800/month unlimited attendance. That's more like it. I don't mind Thai language class.

My preferred area is CMU/Suthep/Huay Kaew but open to anywhere.

I asked a lady with a yoga mat the other day where she was going and she spoke of xxxxxxxx shompu in the university.....wonder if this refers to the colour of the building IE pink......anyone know this one?

Thanks

Try going to the CMU Main Gym and ask. I know on Mondays and Wednesdays, late afternoon to the evening there is what looks to me like yoga going on at the 3d floor. I don't know about the other days.

You should be able to get the information. If not, show up on Monday or Wednesday and go to the room they are in. There are farangs as well as locals I have seen there.

I indeed went to the gym and there are classes M-F at 5.

I then went to the pink building and found classes at 6 which I attended today.

It was all Thai and no personal touch but OK for me in fact moderately tough.

One thing spoiled it they seemed to have a ban on fans and I was dripping with sweat so much it was impossible to hold for instance a downward dog the mat was so wet.

For this reason I only paid for the one class today which was not so cheap at 200bt whereas 12 classes are 1000 which was my original intention.

May go back though.

Maybe get someone to Google in Thai?

Now why didn't I think of that?

Haha I can read and write a bit of Thai but all the hits will require some time.

Any energetic altruistic Thai reading nut like to do it for us all and sort out the results? (I can try :-))

Try googling "Chiang Mai yoga classes"....

And maybe some pointers here:

http://chiangmai.thaivisa.com/yoga-and-the-healing-arts-in-chiang-mai/

I have done that it gives the list of farang oriented downtown classes bad price bad area.

Yes, the tribes of peripatetic western Yogis and self help Gurus. If I was an Immigration Inspector I might pop down to any vegetarian restaurant and record some info from the reams of flyers posted.

Sure these people have a proper work permit for Yoga sessions, "Bodywork", "Past life counseling", etc.

There used to be someone holding a yoga session in ChiangMai at Skybreeze Condo once a week. I understand low cost. You could ask at the office.

Thanks Lizard

That's a nice place I used to occasionally go to ten years or more ago.

If I remember they had five rhythms dance there too.

I used to do two classes a day when I first came here at William's little studio above Tip,s shop in Rachamanka, at a farang rate, and that's what the Yoga .tree charges, (normally 250bt)

I'm not complaining about the price not at all, they probably need to charge that to pay the rent and get by, and I'd pay occasionally, but I'd personally prefer not to add that expense on a near daily basis if it's not necessary. It's different when you just arrived to if you're a permanent in CM.

One adjusts to Thai prices of course.

One option is to follow online classes which are now excellent, but it's nice to be with people and it drives one to put the extra effort in and not be lazy.

I took a peek at the Thai search....

The first page I looked at looks interesting, looks like there are four places under one aegis and name.

http://lannayoga.blogspot.com/2009/12/blog-post_324.html

There are very simple maps and I can see where they are, kinda.

One is the place i went yesterday in CMU, Haw Sii Shompu (hot and full)

One is outside moat at CM Gate.

One is behind Index.

One is near Rachapruak.

That's a pretty good spread geographically.

There are rates mentioned on the Yoga program page in the bracket I am thinking of, 690/month, 6000/year. One-off class 100 baht.

....whcih doesn't gel with what i was charged yesterday in CMU.

Where is our Thai translation expert?

ps

This info doesn't mention a location kinda looks like it's the pricing for all doesn't it?
