Dear Robblok,

You are so off base with your insinuations regarding my supposed support for the previous government. Oddly, in all of my comments on here, you will never find it.

My support is for democratically elected governments, for better or worse. I don't care about the reds vs yellows, or the Shins. I care about the institutions of government and whether they function well.

So we agree the General in 14 months has instituted NO SYSTEMIC REFORMS.

And we agree the Press in Thailand has shown no appetite for pursuing corruption through investigative journalism.

Do we have the same vision of a future Thailand, in which corruption is not flourishing or hidden and sapping the strength of the country? How does Thailand get there without systemic reforms of the police, judiciary, government administration and press?

Personally, I think the current government will continue with some crackdowns; the cynical part of me thinks this is primarily for show. But I suppose a little bit is better than nothing.

Or is it? What if the crackdowns, all highly publicized, are a smokescreen for more significant acts of malfeasance involving very large sums of money?

Nah, nobody in Thailand could be so corrupt, could they? blink.png

My apologies if I was off base, there are so many red cheerleaders here that I thought you were one.

Yes we agree no systemic reforms (and I really hoped there would be and its a bit of a disappointment still its progress that so many people are brought to justice instead of getting of easy like with the previous government but there is a long way to go)

I been here quite a long time (shorter as others) around 10 years and seen how corrupt the Thaksin governments were and how much they lied. So I see this as an improvement (lesser evil).

I am pro democracy however there was no real democracy in Thailand just voting and then nothing no transparency. Just a real corrupt government that lied and cheated. So I don't mind a military junta that finally tackles some of the problems this country faces. In a real democracy when the democrats came with proof of corruption and rotten rice there would have been an investigation.. not a lawsuit against them. In a real democracy the whissle blower civil servant about the losses in the rice scheme would not be bullied. Just voting is not a democracy.

However it is far less then what I want to see.

I can't say if its a smoke screen but I doubt Prajut himself is corrupt, others.. who knows this is Thailand and corruption is endemic here. But i still see this an an improvement but to say this is perfect.. NO its work in progress.

just compare the number of case of corruption that are prosecuted now and before.
