A couple of weeks ago my children came home with a letter from immigration handed out to them at school(private school)

asking us, the parents to register and fingerprint our children at the municipility office.

2 days later we got EMS letters from immigration directly with the same request.

we complied, having our (Dutch Children) photographed fingerprinted and registered.

We had to bring in,,

* Passports

* Houseregistration book

* Non.O dependend extensions

Strangly enough we,Dutch-Lao couple and parents didn't require anything to be registered with them.

Our inquiries about motivation and reason fell to deaf ears.......

anyone had the same procedure required in and outside NongKhai?

I would suspect it is equivalent of the recording of Thai school children for ID cards which now happens in school years and that being foreigners it would require Immigration Police involvement. But have no personal knowledge.

That seems a good guess, as apperently the municipality is involved.

How old are the children? A Thai ID-card is required from age 7.

But the OP's children isn't Thai. Perhaps they are contacting everybody then one wonders what will they do with foreigners ?

I suspect the children's registration is to do with child abduction. The change of being able to get Thai children their ID cards at 7 years old was for that reason.

The point is that not being Thai are are no subject to Thai ID card rules so a special request from school/District Office/Immigration is likely being made to get there information on file.

I can agree but good intentions are not enough when dealing with people's personal details. Beside, if common sense was to prevail all the time, Thailand it would be a very different country.
