Commerce sets recommended prices for bottled water
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- To prevent price gouging for bottled water, the Commerce Ministry has posted recommended retail prices and will impose more stringent measures in case of serious shortages.

"To prevent unscrupulous traders overcharging consumers, the ministry is setting suggested prices at Bt7 for a small bottle of drinking water [500-600 millilitres], or Bt10 for a chilled bottle, and Bt14 for a 1.5-litre bottle," Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya said Wednesday.

The ministry has found more demand in the market, but not yet tight stocks.

Violators will be subject to a maximum Bt140,000 fine and/or seven years in jail under the Prices of Goods and Services Act.

Too much to ask these guys to let market decide prices, as there are many suppliers of bottled water. Is this a problem? Don't they have better things to do, like dealing with some monopolies that could use some reins? Oh, they contribute to those in power. Ah, now I get it.

Thai govt keeping prices of drinking water under control

BANGKOK, 16 July 2015 (NNT)-The Thai government is planning to irrigate water from the Mekong and the Salawin Rivers to replenish the water levels in Thailand’s major dams.

According to Commerce Minister General Chatchai Sarikalaya, the government will be meeting with leaders from Myanmar and 6 other nations along the Mekong River to discuss the possibility for Thailand to use the water from both regional rivers.

The study, which is expected to be completed within a year, is now underway to determine how it should be carried out. The Commerce Minister also said the ongoing drought crisis would not cause the prices of drinking water to rise.

Manufacturers have reiterated that supplies of bottled drinking water are more than ample to meet domestic demands. The Department of Internal Trade has demanded that bottled water of up to 600 milliliters in size must not be sold higher than 7 baht each, and 10 baht if chilled.

As for those with the size of 1,500 milliliters, they must be sold at no more than
