cheesy.gif Obviously hasn't heard the global economy is in trouble and it's not getting better anytime soon! But don't worry, those tourist will still keep coming regardless!

Actually if the baht falls more I plan on coming back. I miss Thailand.

Hard to see this materializing. China the biggest group coming already have their tour companies here in advance trying to wring better deals in the way of lodging and food. Not much margin of profit left. Everybody wants a piece of the pie but some people want more than one piece. If the drought continues well tourists like the rest of us need water to survive so will they bring their own or use up what precious little is left. Its about time the tourism department talks to the water management department and gets a true picture of what is happening. The rain Gods may decide to take a holiday this year and pass us by. Its funny how we always take rain for granted like fresh air which is also under seige. Yes the rains will fall more than likely later than sooner but with all the new construction and so called increase in the rate of tourism we are finally at a tipping point.

No wonder tourism is in a mess. What a load of waffle. These are targets she is stating, not strategies. A strategy is a "how to", a plan, to obtain the target.

Take for example, she says that she has a strategy for "the development of the Thai tourism market which involves many measures, including the promotion of Thailand as a quality leisure destination and the stimulation of traveling in all groups of people". What are these measures ? Who is she targeting ? How is she going to mold Thailand into a quality leisure destination. This is information people want to hear, not waffle.

All three targets (sorry strategies) we have heard before. No substance. If I was a Travel Agent at this seminar, I would have been yawning within half an hour.

Who are the quality tourists for this quality leisure destination ? The Russians, nope, their gone. The Chinese, possibly, but have a limited expiry date. In Western countries, Thailand is now only known (by word of mouth) as a cheap destination, but a large proportion of Western tourists are seasoned travelers, have been for 40 years. They should be the targets. After all they built the original Thai tourist industry, but over the past 30 years as the apathy towards westerners settled in, they drifted away disillusioned.

"The third is the management of tourism, in which tourism personnel and businesses are to be upgraded while related laws are to be amended and seriously enforced. All the three strategies will be presented to the Cabinet next week for consideration."

Does this mean only Thai people know how to deal with customers from overseas and we will enforce the exclusivity of the tourism industry to thai workers only?

Of course as always Thai knows better. Don't you know Thais won 4 Gold medals in Maths? And don't you know the plan of the Min.of Health ordering Thais to grow? In 10 years time the average height should be 1.75 for men, and 1.67 for women? By good food? And the IQ should be at least 100!!!!

Wonderful Thailand. They invent themselves every day and eyes are getting greedy
