Rimmer
Local immigration police told to better identify foreign criminals PATTAYA:--Chonburi immigration police were taught how to better detect foreign criminals while providing better service to tourists at a seminar in Jomtien Beach. Pol. Col. Jedsada Yaisun, deputy commander of Immigration Division 3, spoke to officers about increasing efficiency of their services, ranging from visa renewals to 90-day reporting to issuing work permits to alien workers. The meeting also better prepared officers to prevent crimes committed here by foreigners or finding fugitives hiding out in the Pattaya area. Jedsada said the meeting became necessary after a recent surge in foreigner-related crimes, ranging from the operation of illegal fraud call centers to online casinos to skimming ATMs. - See more at: http://www.pattayamail.com/localnews/local-immigration-police-told-to-better-identify-foreign-criminals-49479#sthash.3h1KWdAU.dpuf -- Pattaya Mail 2015-07-

chrisinth
It seems a shame that they don't know that prevention is better than cure. If it gets to the level of local immigration to sort out who is who, then there is something wrong with the process.
zaphod reborn
How hard is it? Foreign embassy reports name, passport # and criminal allegation to Thai immigration. Thai immigration flags the foreigner in their computer database. Next time foreigner appears at immigration, either for visa renewal, entry at border/airport, or 90-day report, officer enters info and if it is flagged, detain him or her. It's not rocket science. catterwell
They get rid of all the criminals in Pattaya the town would be empty. When I first went to Pattaya, it was pretty empty and quite a nice place. I don't voluntarily go there these days, except to brush up on my Russian. Having made a few trips, I must say the my capability to comprehend written Russian is coming back nicely, but somehow I haven't made efforts on verbal communication. ALLSEEINGEYE
How to identify a criminal? 1). It's the people you are taking your tea money from so that they can continue their illegal activities or remain free even though you know exactly who they are and where they are. 2). It's the people accepting the tea money (check mirror)

May be this is a part of their new measurements. Hasn't the requirement for pp photos to accompany visa and visa extension applications been in place for many years? What's new about it? (Or, are you saying that at Jomtien they actually snapped a picture on the spot, like they do at Immigration at the airport, in addition to the one that must accompany the application for the extension?) The only thing "new" (relatively) as far as I know is 30d extensions for those who've entered on a visa-exempt basis.

Tonawatchee
Foreign criminals should be fairly easy to spot, look for the long black trench coat, high collar that covers part of the face, dark large brim hat, maybe mask over the eyes....

So true. They just have to make sure they have a couple of weapons and a stash of handcuffs available to prevent criminal escape. Here's hoping they are also being trained to shoot accurately, since "detaining" is not always a simple matter. I can just imagine the chaos in a crowded immigration office. Not a pretty picture. I suppose the same could be said for the police and immigration people in the criminals' home countries who couldn't manage to notice them fleeing their countries. Seems incredibly often that Thai police need to do the leg work for the incompetent authorities in Farang Land. There could be a method to their madness. I mean, really. Who wants all the bad guys to stay in the country?? Perhaps the thinking is, "Let them leave and do their dirty work somewhere else". Just saying.
