Sometimes negativity comes from the news forum. It seems the rest of the world is exempt from negative news. Thaivisa focuses on even the smallest incidents in the USA. This makes it ripe for bashes, trolls and the plainly ignorant, to spew negativities. You would think nothing ever happens in the rest of the world. Plainly a goofy attempt to get more viewers? Not to mention..people come to the forum for Thai related info...not for what is in any common news resource.

Just irritating...but I suppose it is done out of envy....which is, actually, flattering.

Not everyone is as obsessed with sex as you. Certainly not everyone sees Thailand as some sort of sex playground.

Also, those who came here for the women seem to be foremost among the negative posters. Those who came here because they like the place seem a lot happier.

You have never given me the impression you are happy!

Most of the western world (men and women) sees Thailand as a sort of sex playground.

They don't all come here, those that come don't all use the facilities, but most recognize it for what it is.

PS

I love it here, if ever I start posting how the UK was better, someone please shoot me in the head.

I'm happy as Larry (whoever he is).

That's the problem though - TV is such a negative place now that nobody seems very happy here.

I agree that many see Thailand that way, but I think that's a shame. Thailand is so much more than that.

I just read the Ashley Madison story. clap2.gif Seem is the operative word because it's not fact. I know everyone is here for the brilliant government, safe centers of worship, magnificent education institutions, pristine beaches, wholesome food and polite driving customs.wai2.gif

More of the kind of cynicism that drags this place down.

Thailand has great significant others. Men, women and in between. The negativity comes when you expect more than that.

I can never remember reading a thread about the difficulty of finding a partner given one meets the minimum requirements (in the bank).

That's a pretty negative opinion.

One man's cynicism is another man's reality.

Perhaps. But it's negative either way.

You've run out of argument, but can't resist getting a last little dig in?

Fair enough. Hardly a positive contribution though, is it?

You only paid for the 5 minute argument.

Reality, is neither positive nor negative.

It's a source of information used to enable people to make informed choices.

If I were to state "Thailand is full of cheap hookers" that would be reality.

For some that would be positive (single men), and for others (married women) it would be negative.

But the reality would allow both sets of people, to decide it it were a suitable place for them (and their families) to live.

Not quite the same thing, though. What you say is more or less neutral information. "Thailand has nothing else to offer but cheap hookers" would be a cynical and negative statement - as well as being completely untrue.

And some people will turn any comment made into an opportunity to argue or inflame purely for sport and self entertainment and nothing to do with what they actually think or believe at all.

Thankfully the longer term members recognise these individuals and dont rise to the "bait". The less experienced are sadly sucked in to this "game" and fall foul of the rules navigated with the precision of a mountain goat by those wordsmiths who delight in their achievements.

That's a pretty negative opinion.

It offered me a sexual partner, wife and mother of my child.

And some really great weather for cycling and hiking.

I have to admit at my age (60), the 'sexual partner(s)' bit has become less important than the cycling.

Although both can require an equal amount of effort :) but one tends to now last longer than the other and have more interesting scenery :)

50% of American men are on some kind of anti psychotic medication because of sex problems. Let me clue you in - it's not too much sex. If Thailand did nothing else but alleviate sex problems in men it might cure the ills of the world.

In a certain religion when you die and go to heaven what do you get? Temples and spicy food?

What do you think Psychiatrists and patients talk about? Tropical weather and Buddhism?

What is the difference between the guys on top and they guys on the bottom? Availability of sexual partners. Bill Clinton had everything and what did he do? Dominique Gaston André Strauss-Kahn now there is a guy with everything and what did he do?

SB you need to take a course in basic psycho therapy and find out what Freud was talking about and all the people who came after Freud.

I'm glad you still find something to like about the place!

Maybe it has something to do with the quality of the posts and questions being posed by TV members.

I mean admittedly I'm no fluent Thai speaker and profess not to be,but if you've lived here 9 years and are complaining that a sales women doesn't understand same same whilst waving an empty printer cartridge in her face, is it surprising that your question is going to met with negativity.

Half the information that people request can be found with a simple google search and bares no connection to living in Thailand whatsoever sometimes.

In all honesty even much of the visa issues can be resolved with a quick search on line, not only that but why would you choose to visit a country without at least knowing the basic visa information, something that not being aware of can land you in hot water.

One has to wonder what did people do before the age of the Internet and Thai Visa ?

We don't seem to export our finest, do we?

I don't think it was out finest in the navy and army that conquered most of the world.

They usually joined up after being offered a choice, "prison or services?"

I've been all over the world without knowing a thing about VISAs.

My travel agent (or PA) sorted out that sort of stuff.

ThaiVisa improved immensely a few months back when some of its most worthless contributors moved on and set up their own forum.

I've seen that happen on other forums. They often end up obsessing about the place they split from, and become a kind of satellite forum based on bitterness and trolling.

RE: Obsessing.

I sent a PM to someone here on ThaiVisa a couple of days ago. I described the new forum as a place "composed of obsessives who obsess about their obsession with ThaiVisa".

There are some very sick people over there, as I'm sure you know.

ThaiVisa is so much better without them. Kudos to Charlie for helping to drive them away.

A very interesting thread giving a small insight into the kaleidoscope of thinking and posting that makes Tvisa

There is no simple right or wrong, positive or negative because the natural thought process would lead each individual to relate posts to their own circumstances

As there are frequent generalisations it follows there will usually be a vociferous individual who can and will defend against a particular comment - not an attempt to be positive or negative just a simple contra to a generalisation often by specific individual example and experience

Past and current members who reduce activity have probably become more relaxed regarding the need to debate against those who show continuous entrenched opinion, and, those clearly needing a little more time and experience

Take it easy guys, just try to remember one size will not fit all, and then perhaps we will see less venom and more agreement
