Police Spokesman: Dissemination of false info is a crime

BANGKOK, 27 August 2015 (NNT) - Police Spokesman Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri has warned people in Thailand that dissemination of false information causing public panic is a crime, and those who commit it will be prosecuted.

He said the latest disseminator of such information was a 17-year-old teenager from Suphanburi Province. The teen was arrested for using a Facebook account entitled “Blowing Bangkok” to publicly post frightening information.

The Police Spokesman revealed that the youth admitted to the alleged crime, saying he did it because of impetuousness and frustation. The officer added the police were monitoring many more teens on similar offences, and therefore warned them to stop their action.

The Police Spokesman confirmed the recent hacking of government websites had no links to the Ratchaprasong explosion, saying it was only a personal attempt by a group of people to raise their public recognition.

Yes, I can well believe an obscure Facebook entry causing "public panic"...............do these self-important nobodies really think they are fooling anyone with their pathetic attempts to extinguish free speech?

NOT a sequel to Debbie Does Dallas.

If someone asked a question such as, are the RTP still clueless ? Would that be considered disseminating false information, or just asking a general question, that is if we are allowed to question.

We know what the PMs answer would be to that don't we? Stop asking stupid questions...

How ironic that the police are telling others not to disseminate false information...

That could of also been of a sexual nature, like Suckers in Bangkok.

That would be knowingly asking a question for which you already knew the answer and placing the RTP in a position where they would have to privide a false answer or otherwise admit they are incompetent.

The very number one scapegoat: Generation Y Social media kids.... clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

The shocking part is that they were not outsmarted again, by this kid

Clearly they're experts when it comes to facebook.......

dissemination of false information is a crime

Large numbers of TV's posters need to watch out then....the Bangkok Hilton would be full of TV posters if the Pol Lt General happens to read some of the posts on here

I guess you don't realize that there are limitations to "free speech". You can't shout out "fire" in a crowded movie theater. If someone is posting on facebook that a certain venue is going to be blown up, then, the person should be prosecuted. It's not an exercise of free speech, it's a crime.

After all the junk the police put out over the latest bombing, they should be the ones proscuted.

They would have to hire an entire Militia and mob arrest the entire kids world of Thailand and put soldiers in each and every household...... OR shut down the entire network in Thailand, with the consequences that the entire Generation Y kiddies will go paranoia

How about dissemination of speculation, isn't that about the same thing. Best start prosecuting the police, they seem to be the biggest offenders.

So that basically means that the RTP is a criminal organisation then? coffee1.gif

Threaten and spread fear is one of the few things this gov is capable. If Thailand would enforce all its laws, Thailand would be a Nanny-State par excellence.

So if the PM Prictator posts on his FB that he is bringing happiness to everyone, he can be arrested and prosecuted for spreading false information?

What about he who says the new charter will bring peace and stability to the country? Are they going to arrest the main man?

Wait a second, that wold make all politicians criminals.

Oh wait .......

Politicians, civil servents, RTP, a good part of the bar girl trade and just about every business that gives a guarantee or a time of arrival for service requested. Another potential weight at the end of a hangmans noose

So basically every junta spokesman is on their way to jail now?

So basically every PDRC leader is on their way to jail now?

...and don't forget- we are the ones telling you what is "false" whistling.gif This guy is a good example for the reason why this country is not fit for democracy.

On the plus side, the RTP is making arrests in the Erawan Shrine Bombing case.
