Min of Interior stresses strong human trafficking suppression

BANGKOK, 5 September 2015 (NNT) – The Minister of Interior ensures that the ministry’s operations will eliminate human trafficking in Thailand by upholding legal implementation based on international standards.

The Minister of Interior Gen Gen Anupong Paojinda has revealed that the ministry has appointed the Department of Provincial Administration to operate human trafficking prevention and suppression measures under the 7-level road map, to lift Thailand from the Tier 3 ranking, as stated in the United States Trafficking in Persons report.

He has said that the ministry has appointed all agencies and personnel under the ministry’s supervision, to focus on the elimination of human trafficking in a strong and continuous manner using effective legal prosecution, upholding international standards.

Authorities in Thailand have been working to regulate immigrant labourers from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia to report themselves during 2014-2015, to obtain the one-year temporary residence permit in order to get through the nationality verification procedures. Authorities have also been providing re-registration and work permit extension services to about 80,000 labourers in the fisheries industry in 2015.

Thai authorities have also been working to grant the right statuses for minority groups and persons with no nationality who have resided in the kingdom for lengthy periods of time.

The Minister of Interior has elaborated on the authorities’ effort to intercept trafficking activities, that all agencies at all levels have been appointed with the task to intercept the illegal transport of immigrants in all areas, as well as developing an information database mechanism through the provincial and district Damrongtham centers.

On suppression efforts, the Ministry of Interior disclosed that special units have been set up to prosecute all forms of human trafficking activities and survey areas that could be hiding shelters of human trafficking movements in border areas and isolated areas.

And they will, of course, deny all reports that ISIL was trafficking Uighurs through Thailand, by bribing immigration officials to allow them illegal entrance into Thailand, distributing fake Turkish passports to the Uighur militants, and then having them fly out to Istanbul, and then on to Syria to fight for ISIL.

I'm quite interested in the concept that a former head of the Thai army is now poacher turned gamekeeper and promising to crack down on what is allegedly the most lucrative money-earner the army has.

I'd be interested in what he actually does as opposed to what he says. What (for example) is the progress with the Army General who was arrested down South?

How many Thai Mr.Big operations and Thai Mr. Big bankers were busted? That woul be the key to taking the Thais seriously on human traffiking. These illicit businesses cannot operate without Thai Mr. Big protection and Thai Mr. Big banking/laundering.

Strict measures in place to tackle human trafficking
WATTANA KHAMCHU
THE SUNDAY NATION

BANGKOK: -- INTERIOR Minister Anupong Paojinda yesterday revealed that concrete measures have been put in place to suppress human-trafficking crimes in Thailand and vowed to uphold international standards to help Thailand get out of Tier 3 of the United States' Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report.

The Department of Provincial Administration has been assigned to propel forward the seven-step road map, which includes driving the policy for implementation in tambon- and community-levels; preventing such crimes particularly through intelligence-gathering; strictly enforcing the laws against such cases; protecting damaged persons and witnesses; and promoting public participation, he said.

The Interior Ministry and related agencies began the process of registering migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia in 2014 and this year had 1,050,068 of them renew their legal status so as to remain in Thailand for another year pending the nationality identification process, he said. Such a renewal process was also gone through by 80,418 migrant workers in the fishery industry, while the ministry was also working on providing minorities and stateless persons in Thailand the correct status.

For human-trafficking suppression, besides additional channels for complaints and information gathering, tambon-level operative teams were also active in inspecting for aliens or human trafficking in their jurisdictions. Special task forces, including provincial administrative officials and related agencies, were also established to crack down and arrest suspects especially in risky areas such as fishery, industrial factories and entertainment venues, he said. This year, 16 cases were prosecuted covering 160 victims.

A total of 5,758 business establishments in 67 province were inspected under the mission.

Anupong said he had instructed officials to tackle human trafficking crimes and suppression strictly, continuously and efficiently in keeping with international standards to rid the country of such crimes.

The Minister of Interior ensures that the ministry’s operations will eliminate human trafficking in Thailand by upholding legal implementation based on international standards.

As long as there are humans on this earth there will always be human trafficking and human slavery. A minister of a developing country, where all types of slavery ( Sex, Child, Illegal immigrant etc..) are the accepted and en grained norm of its society dating back to when everyone in the nation had to serve as an indentured slave for the ruling class.

Is stating that we will eliminate human trafficking and expect people to believe that he is sincere, is either a fool or having a laugh, either way can't be taken serious and says a lot about the credibility of the current ministers of this government.

Yes, please show us the record on arrests and convictions under this suppression scheme: the arrests, the charges, the convictions (have there been any?), how many big fish nailed. Perhaps even a pyramid chart showing us just how far up the food chain their efforts have gone. If it is anything like their record on drug busting, then all guppies and no whales.

"Thailand by upholding legal implementation based on international standards."

Like the international Civil Aviation standards?

Or like the International standards for treatment of refugees?

The only time the current Thai government heeds international standards seems to be in response to humiliation from foreign nations. The Prayut regime is like a child who is sent to his room without dessert because he won't eat his greens.

Yep, there's a message in there somewhere. What works, works.

True enough, I don't know whether to laugh like a drain or admire his sincerity and competence.

No wait, yes I do.

Themselves and Maylasia have been slave traders for decades. Involving government, police and military. Red card them. Nobody of importance has been jailed!

Love is as essential to secular law as it is to religious law.
The ruling class is rarely jailed.
