Norway says won't pay ransom for man held hostage by IS

OSLO: -- A Norwegian man has been held hostage in Syria since January and is now believed to be in the hands of Islamic State, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said on Wednesday, adding she would not yield to the group's demand for a ransom payment.

MFA says Thai nationals not targets in unrest in Turkey

BANGKOK, 10 September 2015 (NNT)-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated that the unrest in Turkey was triggered by political conflicts within the country , and that no Thai nationals have been targeted or hurt in the violence.


According to the MFA, Thai nationals are not the targets of the ongoing protest in Turkey. Only minor damage on homes in Alanya where most Thai citizens are staying has been reported.

The Thai embassy in Turkey has, however, advised all Thai nationals against going near protest sites for their own safety. They have also been advised to keep themselves updated on the situation or contact the Thai embassy for assistance.

56th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair now kicks off

The fair is taking place at Challenger Hall, Muang Thong Thani. Gems and jewelries from Thailand are among items in great demand worldwide. The event is also to show that gems and jewelry produced in Thailand are of global quality.

The Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair has been ranked among the world’s top 5 best gems and jewelry trade shows since its inception. It serves as a platform for traders in this industry to meet and set up business relationships.

At least 30,000 foreign visitors from 160 different nations are expected to visit the fair, where they will get to meet with over 1,500 manufacturers.

The previous event, organized in February this year, generated as much as 28 billion baht for the industry. Organizers expect this year's revenue to increase to 30 billion baht.

A man is in police custody after stabbing his wife multiple times whilst she was at work in a busy shopping mall in Samut Prakan.

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said opponents of the National Council for Peace and Order will not be appointed to the new 21-member Constitution Drafting Committee.

He said the new CDC members do not have to see things the same way with the NCPO but those who disagree with the junta will not be selected.

2,000 farmers in Pichit affected by drought

PICHIT, 10 September 2015 (NNT)- Pichit farmers have been struggling to make a living as more than 30,000 rais of farmlands have gone without water for some time now.


More farmers have been forced to encroach on the area surrounding See Fai Lake as it is the only source of water they can use to grow their crops, even though the water level in the 5,300 rai lake has not increased due to the lack of rain.

The impact on the entire eco system of the lake has been significant. The provincial authority is asking farmers and residents to use water wisely.

Around 2,000 farmers in Dong Charoen, Thap Klor, Wang Sai Poon, Bang Moon Nak, Pho Thap Chang and Sam Ngam districts have been affected by water shortages.

Cambodia backs off threat to scrap Australian refugee deal


Cambodia agreed on Wednesday to take in more refugees from an Australian detention center in the South Pacific, despite having indicated earlier it would pull out of the controversial resettlement agreement having taken in only four people.
