BANGKOK: -- THE NATIONAL Legislative Assembly (NLA) announced its one-year performance yesterday, and said it was satisfied with having deliberated on 143 pieces of legislation.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitchonchai also said the assembly's performance was "satisfying".

Over the past year, the assembly has worked on 143 laws, 132 of which passed through the first reading, while seven failed.

The rest are still being processed, the NLA told the press at Parliament yesterday.

Pornpetch said most of the laws deliberated upon were proposed by the military-led government, with most concerning administration issues and international relations, such as anti-corruption laws and on fighting human trafficking, he said.

He also said the NLA had deliberated upon legislation regarding the "rule of law" and had received no government interference.

It was also reported that NLA had completed its duties in electing, appointing and approving the members of some committees, including those in the Office of the Auditor-General, the Courts of Justice and the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

When asked how the NLA would prove its independence from the government, seeing as it had been installed by the military, Pornpetch said the lawmakers had been working with integrity, and had not favoured anybody's policies or orders.

In addition, most of the Army officers in the NLA have already retired, he said, pointing out that many laws suggested by the junta-led regime had been rejected. He also called on the press to keep an eye on them.

Pornpetch elaborated that the NLA had removed six public servants and had also successfully impeached former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra over the rice-pledging scheme.

Yes, and as a result, LOS has never been more stable and prosperous...

I think a lot of that has to do with the focus on reciting Uncle Too's 12 principles and the added marching, anthem singing and flag waving, together creating one united, happy and obedient population!!

Usually, the measure of performance for the legislature would be the results of an election.

All hail the politburo.

NLA had not favored anybody's policies or orders.

BUT

Most of the laws deliberated upon were proposed by the military-led government.

As a Junta-rubberstamp assembly, the NLA deserves credit for carying out its master's agenda.

Is that the same as a "Daisy Chain"?

Ask me and I will tell you " I satisfied with my performance" but ask my wife and get

a different answer ! Thai agencies do a lot of unjustified back slapping !

BUT,

The laws will not be enforced, unless it fits in w/ somebody's agenda.

Laws-schmaws.

Don't get me started. I could go on for ages.

More like bukake with the public on its knees.
