Buying a Macbook Pro in Chiang Mai

Hello everyone,

My Windows laptop is on the it's last legs so I've decided to get a new machine.

Today I stumbled upon the Mac Zone shop just off Huay Kaew Road, and after looking at the options I think I'm going to buy the 13 inch Macbook Pro, but wanted to check a few things before spending that kind of money.

1) Is there a cheaper option for buying Macs in Chiang Mai/Thailand?

2) Can I replace the keys with english only keys?

3) Will I have warranty even when I return home to the UK?
4) Where should I go to insure it in Chiang Mai?

Note: I'll be staying in Chaing Mai for at least 6 months.

Thanks in advance.

1 New current model, don't think so.

2 Yes, you can order online from Apple Store Thailand and get it but you might ask in the shop to see what they can do.

3 Yes

4 No idea but the CM Apple outlets offer some kind of insurance on other products so they probably do for computers too, again check with the store.

If you do not get the answers you want, you might check with the Apple store in Airport Plaza and/or KSK just to be sure.

You might qualify for a VAT when you leave with the computer so you might check out the requirements on that and save your purchase documentation.

Online Thai Mac Store, use the educational option. Save about 3000 baht. They don't actual ask for any proof of you being a student or teacher.

2) Can I replace the keys with english only keys?

You can choose Thai or English Keyboard online (and fully customize your mac pro for example get extra memory - highly recommended)

3) Will I have warranty even when I return home to the UK?

All Macs come with International warrantee

4) Where should I go to insure it in Chiang Mai?

You can purchase extended care option online from the Mac Store.

Note that the computer might be shipped directly from the Mac factory in China and billed from Singapore. This is a way for them avoid paying taxes even though they charge you the same price as the locally taxed laptops.

Thailand Online Apple store...is there a way to view the site in English? I couldn't find it. Or is the US site with shipping to Thailand the same thing?

Thanks...

The Thai site I used is in English. I purchased a iMac from their site but did my purchased and info gathering was through their call center in Singapore. My order was sent by two sources, one was UPS and the other was by DHL, both from Shanghai. No duty or tax applied. My purchased price was 58,000 baht by dealing direct where all others wanted 63,000 baht.

I just saw that apple has done an update on their sites so you may have to use the US site for product info but if you go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201232

you can get toll free numbers for Singapore. Call them for details and info. I was talking withe them so much they were calling me.biggrin.png

I never seen a difference in price with Apple....

We shopped for an IPad a few months ago, and must of gone to a dozen places. We were told "no deals", that the price was standard. That made our choice easy...we went to the store with the best service, and that specialized in Apple Products, exclusively. Our Apple outlet was in Central Festival...sort of in the middle, on the "tech" floor. Really not hard to find at all.

I suppose Airport Plaza or Pantip would have a similar outlet. We really got outstanding service.

If you want a discount...you may gamble with the baht rate.... some folks think it won't get any better (USD to Baht), and consider that for me, anyways, the exchange rate was much better than last year...effectively giving me a discount.
