tezzainoz
Thailand newspapers report the Surfers Paradise beaches have very few people of their beaches during winter compared to the amount that where their last summer Must be because they have no jet skis for hire their
MZurf
the weather may have had more to do with it, nothing to do with the absence of scam thugs - good riddence also - until the crack down is over ? so they think if they stay away they can avoid being arrested then return in a week or so unabated - I hope they got this completely wrong "also - until the crack down is over ? so they think if they stay away they can avoid being arrested then return in a week or so unabated..." sabaii69
So people only go to Pattaya beach to go on the jet ski, what useless reporting. This is certainly not the reason tourists are not here. Tourism is seasonal, Russians are having problems at home, and thousands of immigrants are coming into European towns. The normal 5 victims...customers..of jet skis don't do squat. The sky is not falling and the tourists will return like the swallows of Capistrano. I don't think the jet ski problem affects many thais except when their scam money is cut off.
apalink_thailand
Wow... No jet Skis, how will Pattaya manage ? Hahaha.... Good riddance ! The operators left probably thinking, "we will show you Police, try to tell us how to run our business bla bla bla....." They might actually think people really care but it is the best news Pattaya and Thailand has had for years. Hope they never return !!! The profits are huge. They WILL be back. Dukeleto
Agree it is not well written at all, but what I got from the article was that the beaches were quiet due to the absence of both the jet ski operators and other beach vendors who were also staying away due to the crack down, thus the lack of people mentioned in the report was not referring to beach-goers per say but rather the beach operators themselves. Cake Monster
The beaches being devoid of the Jet Ski Scammers, and other hawkers, is kind of understandable. As is the Thai way, when being threatened or criticised for anything, they turn away and run. - hence all the hit& runs on the roads. However, the fact that their are few Tourists, as the report seems to suggest, seems a little strange. Unless the downturn in the economy is really starting to bite hard. AlQaholic
Not sure if the picture in the crappy report written by a amateur German reporter is in any way connected to the report (one may thing that because it is located together with the rest of the report), but there are two or even three jet skies visible in that picture......... HLover
Pattaya Beaches empty, following Jet Ski Crackdown PATTAYA: -- Following the recent Jet Ski Crackdown led by the Crime Suppression Police from Bangkok last week, Beaches in Pattaya are reportedly empty and the Jet Ski Operators are nowhere to be seen. It is thought that the majority of Jet Ski Operators have decided to stay away from Pattaya Beaches for now until the crackdown finishes and other workers who make their living from beachgoers report low numbers over the weekend. We checked Pattaya Beach and the Bali Hai Port and both areas on Saturday afternoon, which would normally feature hundreds of foreign and domestic tourists, were very quiet as even some boat operators have decided to stay away for a while until the crackdown stops. At Pattaya Police Station, the Criminal Investigation Department reported no Jet Ski disputes on Saturday which they claim is unheard of. They mentioned that most cases that did reach Pattaya Police Station were hard to resolve and Police would refer most cases to the Court. Full story: http://pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/217910/pattaya-beaches-empty-following-jet-ski-crackdown/ -- Pattaya One 2015-09-14 If the detectives at Pattaya One happen to search across from Pattaya (water) Park, they will see the jet ski gang peddling to Chinese tourists daily, right next to the sea rescue building. Seen daily drinking large beers and whiskey around 0800 in the morning- the jet ski lads, not the Chinese. ToS2014
I was at Bangsaray yesterday. Perhaps the jet ski operation has relocated there as I saw 2 farang and a hand full of Thai's looking at the underside of their returned jet ski. 20 or so minutes later they all followed the tractor pulling the jet ski away. springheeled jack
the fact that pattaya beach is deserted isn't because of the jet ski vendors its because we are not getting sufficient tourists and of course the time of year monsoon weather doesn't help . kannot
but for how long? A message needs to be sent, very simple anyone who starts to sell the jet skis again confiscate jet ski and no return, period. What will happen though is what the operators expect, a slow crawling back of the jet skis and in 6 months " back to normal"
IAMHERE
What time was the pic taken? Must be some forum users there now. Give us your own report. Are fewer chairs in use than usual? WhizBang
Who writes this stuff? Who APPROVES it? So the low number of tourists on the beach could have nothing to do with it being low season, and rainy season too? Not to mention all the really bad publicity that Thailand has been getting lately. Transporter
So people came only to the beaches because of jet skis? Common this is a worthless title. When I go to the beach its for the Sun, Sea and Sand. The last thing I want are noisy annoying Jetskis and Beach traders pestering me every 20 seconds. There are people who want these things so they need to now set up an area for it which is properly licenced and checked well away from the now beautifully peaceful end of the beach. dotpoom
I doubt if the jet ski crackdown has anything to do with the low numbers. I live in Bang Saray and drove into Pattaya yesterday (Sunday)and was expecting the usual traffic jams of w/e holiday makers from Bkk and elsewhere heading for Pattaya, Nam Ram or Bang Saray beaches. But no it was plain "sailing" all the way, a pleasure to drive for a change.
