I tried to watch the Rugby this evening on ITV (UK) using Thai Expat TV, and got quite a lot of buffering. Allegedly I only need a steady 3Mbps to watch this.

True Online allegedly give me 30Mbps (according to their speedtest) so I should have no problems. The odd thing is that I have a VPN (Zenmate) and when I used that (Singapore) I had no problems at all, even building up a 5 minute buffer.

I also had problems opening other International sites with True in Thailand e.g. the Fantasy Football website, but again no problems when I was in Singapore.

Does anyone know what True are doing in Thailand, as I have this huge alleged bandwidth, with a magnificent speed, that struggles to open web sites.

I suppose I could always stay in Singapore.

Does it work reliably at times when there's no major sporting event on TV ?

I'd guess there's a chance that a whole load of people (1000's perhaps ?) accessing the same channel at the same time due to the world cup might be saturating their capacity but that would all depend on their server infrastructure and connectivity of which we know relatively little about.

The weakest link could well be the server that's serving up the content.

I understand the busy times are between 18:00 and 24:00, and that there maybe thousands watch the Rugby.

But what I can't understand is that although Thai Expat TV servers are in Thailand is why I get a better result when I'm based in Singapore via a VPN.

I'm not sure how a VPN works, but I'm using the same True supplied router and the same DOCIS cable.

So why am I getting better results from a server thousands of miles away than one in Thailand.

Everytime I ring True I get a message telling me that their High Speed bandwidth is unobtainable at the moment as they are doing essential maintenance work. This message seems to be there permanently, changing only the date and the time

I am getting totally peed off with True, and was thinking of changing to the AIS Fibre (FTTH).

Has anyone had experience with the AIS Fibre re installation and service.

We've got True 13mbps ADSL and no problems watching the Rugby live on ITV using Kodi or the free FilmOn UK live TV feeds. The live sports are sometimes buffering as per post above on load. Shouldn't need a VPN/DNS fix for that either.

I watched several hours uktv on filmon (free) and had no issues at all. Although expattv and ilikehd have servers in Thailand, the original signal is still international.

I also use Kodi and Filmon TV, and find it virtually impossible to watch any live sport without buffering. I have tried various IPTV sites such as Stalker, Dexter, Vdub25, Zeus, etc with the same results.

This is the reason I tried Thai Expat TV. because their servers are based in Thailand and only need 3Mbps. so I should not get any buffering.

Digitabanana you have 13Mbps ADSL and have no problems streaming live sports, yet I allegedly have 30 Mbps and have problems??

Sniffdog I understand the original signal is from abroad, but that does not explain why I have subscribed to a Thai service and yet I get better results when I'm based in Singapore.

The 2 replies so far seem to be very happy with streaming with True. Is there anybody having problems.

Elf,

I changed from True to AIS 30/10 in BKK. VDSL instead of ADSL. Router supplied was restrictive so bought a new Asus one. I use IPTV to watch the UK tv, all sports, sky etc, catch up all good, very happy with it.

The speed advertised, such as a 30Mb plan, refers to the "domestic/local" speed; it does not mean you will get 30Mb speed to international servers...in fact you'll probably only get about one tenth to one fifth that speed when measured by an accurate bandwidth speed tester...and that international speed you get may not be a consistent, steady speed but with a lot of peaks and troughs...a zigzag kinda of data flow. A speed test may say you got a speed of 3Mb but that's an "average" speed....that 3Mb average speed may have included a bunch of 1Mb troughs and 5Mb peaks...and even short periods of no data flow at all....but the speed test results will show 3Mb fooling a person into thinking their speed is adequate and steady. Some speed testers will show the peak and trough data flow as it does its measurement/before it gives you its final average result. Live video streaming hates a zigzag data flow....needs a consistent, steady data flow.

From your handle I am guessing you are based in Pattaya? I am in Pattaya and supposedly have True Docsis 15Mbps but have been having increasing problems recently especially on weekend evenings and earlier today. This is just with loading web pages like TV for example and BBC news.

Live football streams can also be very frustrating but that could be due to the eclectic sites my gf accesses to find her team..........whistling.gif

From previous discussions on this a lot seems to depend on where you are - EG Pib in BKK has generally been very happy with his True packages as have some other posters in different parts of Pattaya. For me I have always thought it was still disappointing - but I can be very fussy........ smile.png

topt, you are right I am based in Pattaya and have been with True for about 3 years, my plan should be 18Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up. They gave me this 30Mbps promotion a year ago and I know it seems unlikely

but I thought I was better off with the 18 and so went back to it.

Recently I have been complaining so much, like every day, they decided to give me the 30Mbps back without me even asking.

I reckon I have been having problems for probably the last 6 weeks especially as you say evenings and weekends where even web pages do not load. Last night in particular was very bad.

My wife is sick to death of me moaning about True so I decided to call some sort of truce.

Tonight I watched the Rugby without any buffering on Thai Expat without using my VPN. So that's a result.

I have made an appointment with AIS to come on Wednesday, but I'll probably cancel, as I've heard nothing but bad reports about them.

Also True give me a very good price of 599 Baht for which I get the phone and TV. To get the same with AIS would be double, even with their promotion.

So I'm still waiting for some good reviews about AIS.
