george Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Thieves burgle Bt6m from ATM CHON BURI:-- At least three thieves forced open an ATM machine on a Chon Buri superhighway in heavy rain and got away with a money box containing Bt6 million, police said yesterday. Following the report of the theft at 1.30am, police found that one of two ATMs at Kasikornbank's Om Muang Chon Buri branch had been yanked open. Police suspect the culprits destroyed a security camera and, after a failed attempt to jemmy the machine open, chained the ATM's cover to a pickup truck and drove off, forcing out the money box. Police seized the jemmy at the scene and recovered parts of the money box from the road, near a Muslim cemetery. The culprits' knowledge of the bank's schedule in putting money in the machine and of the getaway route suggested to police that they were local residents. -- The Nation 2006-09-24
jdinasia Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Yeah! If that gets out ..... none of them will be safe!
Jing-jo Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 suprised with all the building going on in Thailand no one has twigged what two or three gangs in the south of england used to do with the JCB's use it to "dig" the ATM out of the wall carry it out of sight out of the ever present CCTV then use the power of the JCB hydraulics to smash the machine open then pick it up and place it into van drive to secure area and divide the spoils up then retain full semblance of normality by still working or not as the case may be sit tight for a couple of months then spend slowly oh so slowly so do not let the wife or GF or both! know otherwise they will spend it for you while you relinquish your freedom in a destination of HRM court's choosing but this requires coordination, composure and self control things the Thais are sadly lacking in according to all the Thai detractors on the various forums but I think they have this in spades as they have put up with the xenophobes for nearly 40 years now and are still able to manouvere the financial dealings to their advantaage at nearly every turn without the xenophobes realising sometimes bit like lawyers and real estate people the world over here's hoping NO criminal types read this forum

astral Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 bur‧gla‧ry [bur-gluh-ree] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun, plural -ries. Criminal Law. the felony of breaking into and entering the house of another at night with intent to steal, extended by statute to cover the breaking into and entering of any of various buildings, by night or day. There is no house involved here. "Thieves steal 6 m from an ATM" would be a better title. 6m is not unusual for a fully stocked ATM.
Lacoste Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Yeah! If that gets out ..... none of them will be safe! The simple fact that you have read it would suggest to one that 'it' is out.
britmaveric Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Europeans Make Illegal ATM Withdrawal. Employees turned up at the Kasikorn Bank in Chonburi a few days ago to find a hole in the wall where their ATM hole-in-the-wall cash dispensing machine was previously located. Realising the machine was incapable of walking off on its own, especially since it contained 4.2 million baht, the bank employees alerted police. A security camera set-up to monitor the ATM caught three men of European appearance performing a sterling effort of lifting the 200 kilogram machine into the back of a pick-up. When the news of the daring theft was broadcast on Thai television a local man who rents pick-ups from Soi X-Zyte recognized the three men and informed police. He gave the passport details of the men to the police who then went to the intriguingly-named BS Apartments on Third Road and managed to detain two men, Milan Nikoric, aged 35, and Larsic Branislav aged 46, both carrying Yugoslavian passports. A third man was fortunate to be out at the time police arrived and is now thought to be on the run. The men told police they had dumped the ATM machine, minus its cash haul, near Mabrachan Lake. Police were able to recover just 2 million of the 4.2 million baht. It’s doubtful the men opened a bank account elsewhere, given the number of thieves operating these days. Authorities, and Beach Road ladyboys, are now on the lookout for any European with a very pronounced bulge in his pockets. -Pattaya City News Tuesday 26th September 2006
jdinasia Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 The writing is just getting better and better! <and Brit .... I am glad the big farang in the back doesn't have tattoos!>
Lacoste Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 It was a gang of three Europeans, two are already being detained by the men in brown and another is missing in action. Police have recovered about 2 million THB and i believe there is about another 2.2 million still missing.
Lacoste Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I Thought JD was already out :lol:LOL I believe he 'came out' a long time ago.

Scott Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Well, another sterling example of why Thailand is tightening up its visa regulations. Lucky for these boys, they won't have to bother with those nasty visa runs anymore!

Police have recovered about 2 million THB and i believe there is about another 2.2 million still missing. Presumably they will be prosecuted under the Immigration laws, unless they had a work-permit, to 'do a job' here in LOS ? Nice to see that foreign expertise is still useful here !

Also I though it was 6 million that was 'nicked' - but now only 2 million of the 4.2 million has been recovered? Tea money anyone.....

Reminds me of the story a few years back where the feds sent out letters to the last known address of wanted criminals, telling them that they won a prize in a lottery and they should come to a special event to pick it up. The feds were amazed that something over 50% showed up to pick up their "prize".. police waiting of course
