Internet dating sites have few of these Issan marriage scams. Engage marry in a village ceremony only of course. Then he goes home next one comes along.

Nice little earner for the girl and the family.

If you have the pleasure of seeing this don't interfere because they will blame you for the loss of income.

The sam has moved from BG to Tf and Tc lol

Why is that some farangs seem to leave their brains at the airport?

That being said, I can imagine the discussion with her family about Sinsod and the buying up of land/property/gold/cars/motorbikes and iPhones for all the cousins would be enough to send even the most reasonable of men a bit crazy.

Throw alcohol into the mix and this is the result.

A night in the cells vs a life of torment at the hands of inlaws.

Sounds like the Aussie guy had a lucky escape.

Why is it the inlaws fault? and it is not just farang, plenty of Thai men get drunk and abuse their girlfriends and wives, and they leave them for younger women. There are some people who can't "hold their liquor", meaning that the have a "Jekyll/Hyde" personality change when drunk. They get mean and combative, Most people just get mellow and eventually just stupid drunk, and a few get funny. The fiance is lucky to have found out what he's really like before she ends up a battered wife.

"According to Thai news site Khaosod, Mr Walsh had been persuaded to travel to Udon Thani to the visit the family of his girlfriend, who he had met approximately one month earlier in the popular resort of Pattaya.

Apparently, Mr Walsh and his girlfriend were going to announce their plans to get married to his her parents and the rest of the family."

Getting arrested was probably the best thing which could happen to this moron.

Quite true. Just the kind of violent drunk that needs to be thrown into the luggage hold of an Austrailian bound plane, with a note telling him to "go home and grow up", after his passport has been stamped, "banned from Thailand for 10 years". It will probably take him that long to "grow up". coffee1.gif

So you have personal experience of " Sinsod and the buying up of land/property/gold/cars/motorbikes and iPhones for all the cousins" do you?

Not my or all my farang friends married to Thais experience, moderate dowry and 1-2 Baht of gold (and gold went to the wife, still sitting in our drawer 10 years later) And I got a heap back from the donations. But then myself and my friends are reasonably intelligent... not same as certain TV posters.

But I suspect you are posting the usual troll rubbish..get the anti-thais going.

I do hope in months to come that the dear gentlemen realises the favour that was bestowed on him by the police in terms of locking him up and not charging him.

If dawn bought any sense to the situation he may well realise that this was arguably the best outcome and that if he forgets about the love of his life or at least of the last month, he and his wallet may well have got off very lightly indeed . Good pragmatic discretion shown by the RTP here.

In Australia old mate would be facing drunk and disorderly, disturbing the peace and possible assault charges .

I do wonder what set him off so.... I can only imagine ......maybe a carefully scripted play by the girl and her family ....... nice introductions, some Issan music in the background, alcohol flowing freely, everyone with smiles ,his wife to be wearing a lovely form fitting floral dress, a joyous situation indeed......all was going swimmingly well until Papa announced it would cost 4M baht to get a ring on his beloved daughters finger ... a moments silence followed as all looked intently at this potential benefactor, another moment passed and then whammo.. he loses it , fuelled by Sang Som he storms out and feeling non too generous or hospitable to Thai's in general.........

In some ways thinking about it there must be allot of guys who come over here burned out by a divorce or circumstances which took just about everything but their dignity and maybe some of that, find a nirvana in the bars and clubs and then meet a girl whose looks and youth are not something he would have a chance of back home.... instant romance, happiness, great sex and future plans then only to realise that its not for free and "bang" the sad reality of the situation comes thudding home. I cant say that I pity them as that is not the right terminology Im looking for but I certainly feel for allot of these guys.........

Dust yourself off buddy get back up and go and enjoy what this place has to offer but perhaps with a modicum on new found understanding that nothing is for free here.

and don't spit at people it's quite discusting.

There was an Aussie in BKK about 3-4 years ago; drunk, stole a cab while the driver ducked into a 7/11, joyrided for a bit, got chased and apprehended by th. e cops,

laid into them with bare fists.

took about 8 of em to get the guy down

He got carted away bloodied and bruised and missing one shoe

now THATS a rampage.

These pussys writing nowadays..giving rampages a bad name!

Let me get this straight. This bogan came to Pattaya, fell in love with a bar girl (a fairly safe assumption) after one month and then decided to marry her. clap2.gif

I don't think it took him one month to fall in love with her. The one month seems to be how long it took him to decide marrying her would be a good idea. I'll bet going to Udon Thani was quite a culture shock for him. I remember the first time I went to Buri Ram 40 years ago. Wow. Just wow. Hope this guy realizes Thailand isn't the land of his dreams.

For a real chuckle, if you have 5 minutes to spare read this version by Khaosod.

Fascinating language.

Screwed frantic rally! Grab skirmishing Forest City residents.Police arrested stuffed custody - late at night thinking tie suicide.

That's what you get for copying and pasting into Google Translate. Actually, it's better than it used to be, and if more people would contribute corrected translations it could become better. This is a good demonstration that you cannot learn a language one word at a time. You need to learn phrases. You can use one to one correspondences only if you keep in mind that it's only a way to retrieve the associated meanings from your memory. The Google algorithm needs lots of text in one language translated into the other. The longer the two texts are the better the resulting translations are. Several of the words defeat me, but it seems they were afraid he intended to commit suicide by hanging himself, that was why they took him into custody. I would urge everybody, it you use Google Translate and if you find you understand the Thai better than the translation the program gives, hit the "wrong?" icon at the lower right corner and enter the better translation. For example, I recently was trying to buy a measuring cup and my niece didn't recognize the words I got from Google. I later was browsing Lazada.com for one, because you can enter English into their search box and it (sometimes) works. Anyway, I found several entries that had both the Thai and English in the item description, so I learned a new word and then put it into Google Translate.

i think the cops had pity on him because he is the fourth man this year this bargirl has brought home.

they all go berserk.

Cops: "Yo Somchai, looks like Jiraporn is back in town and brought us another live one. He's wrecking the hotel. Poor guy. I wonder what she did this time? Oh well, we'd better go get him."

What is it with these idiots and wanting to marry bar girls within weeks of knowing them? Back when I first moved here I met an American that married one and within a few months he was completely cleaned out and went back to the States. The thing is this bloke was in his fifties and coming to me for advice! (in my early 20s at the time)

Do they leave their common sense at the airport?

Everything is relative.

When compared to some farang's everyday life back home, falling in love with a bar girl from Pattaya and getting into a fight with the hotel staff might be an improvement.

Pattaya ..... no. 1 destination for dropouts of the world sad.png

Pattaya is one of the traditions Thailand got from us.

From what I understand, it started off as an R&R place for American GI's to get away from the VC during the Vietnam War era.

Maybe they hired a big band, slaughtered a couple of cows and invited the entire village for free food and when he was presented with the bill he realized what was taking place at his expense.

Then a beer vest wearing drunk turned up to the party more like....

Be a couple generations before family regain status again....
