BANGKOK, 22 September 2015, (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thai Foundation, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and Tourism Authority of Thailand have launched the "Street Food Bangkok" application for smartphones.

Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs Norachit Sinhaseni officiated the application-launching ceremony on Monday. According to Mr. Norachit, the smartphone application caters to younger generations, who favor a leisurely lifestyle and regularly utilize such technology.

He said that the application would promote more than 120 street food vendors around the capital, and that it would likely expand coverage to other provinces, if it receives positive feedback.

The Permanent Secretary claimed that "Street Food Bangkok" is user friendly. People can search for recommended menus, locations of vendors and types of food. The application is available now in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The cynic in me would ask how much the 120 "street vendors" had to pay to be featured in the app.

Are these the same street vendors that the BMA has been trying to get rid of for years?

It's a good initiative. Can they keep it objective? Will the reviews, ratings and rankings be user driven? Starting small is a good place to start then ramp up after they shake out the bugs

The cynic in me would ask how much the 120 "street vendors" had to pay to be featured in the app.

But the capitalist in me was thinking that would be a great way to have the promoted industry pay for the production of the app.
