Should be just fine .... assuming the hips are fine etc .... sleeper cars might be best

my parents didn't want sleeper, because they told they can not sleep in them and also they want to see something from thailand.

Actually I would also prefer the sleeper. Is there a kind of restaurant or something where you can buy beer?

The sleepers when not folded down provide windows ..... there is a dining car with beer etc ....

and folks wandering through with drinks etc.

The sleeper provides more space to sit and relax even when not converted to sleeping mode .... AND the dining car closes at 10 or 11pm

I would suggest you use the 14:45 Bangkok - Butterworth service. Plenty of room, aircon, food and booze. Arrival in Chumphon about 22:30. Not too late so just enough time to buy me a couple of beers. :o Do not use the 13:00 Bangkok - Sungai Kolock class 2 aircon service. The windows are blacked out making the whole coach feel like a tomb. If they are O.K. with fans only class 2 on the 13:00 is not too bad but can get rather hot in the early afternoon. Hope you all have a great time!

The diesel rail car leaving Bangkok 07.45(?) is a nice small train, all second class, airco, basic breakfast and dinner on board, nice views. Gets into Chumpon around 13.15?

I lived in Chumpon and took this train many times, my preferred.

Diving at the Chumpon Cabana ?(at Thung Wua Laen, 15km North of Chumpon town) At the other side of the beach,a good km walk, a french guy name Frank has a small bar-food-internet shop-take care of everything type place -no girls- Say hello to him from me (Alain living in Udon now)

I would suggest you take the 7.45 train, gives you a relaxing afternoon to install your parents on the beach. Watch out for sandflies, they can be nasty (depends on season)

Enjoy your stay there.

Train number 85 which departs Bangkok at 7.30pm has first class cabins ... this train will arrive in Chumpon at 3.45am ... If you are going to Koh Tao then the first boats all depart at 7am ... the catamaran also departs again at 1pm.
