Port forwarding 3bb Huawei HG531 V1

Hi guys,

usually I dont have problem with setting up port forwarding, but this drives me crazy. I got modem/router from 3bb, it is Huawei HG531 V1, I just setup 2 IP cameras, they are accessible from inside of network on 192.168.1.100:81 and 192.168.1.101:81 - of course I want to make them accessible outside. I even reset the modem to factory defaults, set up just internet user/pass and Port mapping. And it doesn't work, the port is not open. I wanted to update firmware just in case, but didn't find any. Any clues?

This is my setup:

my IP:

when I open http://192.168.1.100:81/ works, when I open http://171.6.251.94:81/ doesnt work, so port forwarding is not working, I restarted the router, I just can not get it work. Any idea guys? I am quite desperate, and it seems I need to call 3bb guys to check this and maybe ask for another router....

Here is info about router:

The MODS killed the wrong duplicate thread. Oh well.

What does your HG531 V1 Router show the WAN IP Address being the same as your Public IP Address? (Making sure you're not under a Double NAT with a Reserved Public IP Address).

Also, some gateway/routers will not let you use your own WAN IP address from within the LAN.

You have to use another Internet Connection (like a 3G/4G Data Internet) to test your port forwarding.

Thanks, I will try to check tomorrow, it is in the shop of my wife. The phone cable going to splitter and then to router, so I doubt it is Double NAT. I will test with 3G/other connection.

I tested it now from my home internet connection it seems no port is open on that modem/router...I even tried to turn off firewall on that modem, but as I said, nothing helps :( At home I got NT3BB-1PWN-124 and over there is port forwarding working good...

While most common Double-NAT situations are where end-users connect TWO Routers back-to-back (both actively doing Network Address Translation to share one IP to many LAN port connections), it can also be forced on you by the ISP if/when they provision your line to serve your home/business router a Carrier-Grade NAT reserved/private IP Address and you and several other similar ISP customers are forced to utilize an ISP shared gateway to access the public Internet. Normally you wouldn't notice any difference except that P2P communications and Port Forwarding won't work.

Checking what IP Address is assigned to your router's WAN Port will tell you if this is or isn't the case.

WAN port addressing indicating a double-NAT is in play:

10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255

100.64.0.0 – 100.127.255.255
172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255
If your router's WAN Port is being issued an address within any of these ranges they you will need to contact your ISP to find out how to get a public IP address.
Most people who explain they're accessing IP Cameras on their Internet connection can easily have their connection re-provisioned to always issue you a Public IP instead of a Reserved/Private IP Address.
