British National Killed in Sattahip Motorcycle Accident
I don´t know what you are trying to imply. That is would be dangerous for foreigners to ride a motorbike in Thailand? I assume you are not a rider, or maybe not even been trying to ride a bike. The problem, is the unexperienced riders that also think they are the king of the road with a couple of beers inside. But, just an unexperienced rider will be enough. For riders like me, and many other on this forum we do not have any problem riding bikes in Thailand. A little bit same as climbing Mount Everest, without even trying a practice climbing wall ever. It´s mindsets like that, which will get people hurt or worse. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
You're right, not the best choice of words on my part. Well known, significant, farang friendly, prominent, well regarded take your pick. But it doesn't change the fact that it's a well regarded law firm, so if we're going to pay attention to what the other say, we need to pay attention to this one also. -

Trump lost the respect of veterans – including me. He's a risk to our democracy.
Not me! I am one year younger than Trump, but unlike Trump I volunteered and served my country. The sooner Trump is removed from the American national scene the better for both the United States and the world. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
Take this in the context of the future and what is being asked for. In this case, Negative Income Tax, as requested by the Finance Permanent Secretary. What is negative income tax? A system where anyone earning under the income (not tax) threshold is paid support by government, based on their earnings. It's not welfare, it's work related, the further you are away from an optimal income, the more the government pays you. In order for the system to work, everyone must report all their earnings, above the tax reporting threshold, otherwise they can't participate. This supports the desire to have anyone earning, even if there is no tax to pay. The same system is being explored in many countries as a way to eradicate poverty and to increase the tax take. https://www.itax.in.th/media/negative-income-tax/ https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/general/2861888/official-backs-negative-income-tax-concept#:~:text=Finance permanent secretary Lavaron Sangsnit, falls below a specified threshold. -

Woman Fatally Shoots Popular Female DJ Over Debt Dispute in Chana, Songkhla
As explained to me by a Thai lady ....... 1. The police aren't very good, you'll probably get away with it. 2. For poor people Thai jail isn't much worse than Thai life. -

Huge markup on imported foods. Why?
I lol at everyone who seems to think that shipping "foreign foods" from (the UK, America, Europe or even Australia) is "free" and that Thailand wouldn't have any Import Duties and Tariffs on it. Of course it's going to be more expensive ! Just like buying authentic "Thai" or other "foreign" foods would be back in your home countries. If it's such a burden for you, simply send some money to family/friends "back home", have them run around and do some shopping for you and then mail it to you (don't use a courier like FedEx or DHL though). Make sure you track what the item(s) cost "back home", add the postage/shipping fees and hope it slips past Customs without them tacking on (I think it's about 20%). I recently ordered some very hot sauce from Amazon. Paid about $112. Paid through the nose for shipping because it was shipped via FedEx (not by choice). Paid through the nose again because FedEx was playing stupid games to add more fees to the invoice. The actual Customs Duties and Fees on the order came out to almost bang on 20%. So imagine a shop doing the same thing. Right off the bat they'd literally have to double the price of that sauce to pay for it, the shipping and Duties. PLUS add on their own mark-up to pay for the shop's expenses and labour. And maybe, if they're lucky, they'll be able to make a small profit. While listening to everyone whine about why it costs so much more here than "back home". -

Is Thailand Value for money
The way it was explained to me by a researcher : if it has a label then try to avoid it as it means it has been processed. If you don't believe that, read the contents on the label and you will see some foreign languages - naming the chemicals added for flavor, color, sugar/fructose/glucose, if not label, means it is a fruit or veggie so unless marked as organic, probably sprayed with poisons. good luck!
